The Easiest Way To Make More Money | |||
|
| ||
|
I know exactly what you want… more money, right? And ideally you want more money without much effort. You don’t want to have to go setup a new web site, or create a new blog, or produce a new product, or go write a bunch more content, or go buy advertising. You simply just wish there was a ‘magic’ way that you could instantly make more money without much additional effort. Well, there is a way. And I’m going to tell you exactly how to do it. So pay close attention. Here’s What You Need To Do: Do a ‘Marketing Audit’ of your entire business… - MAP out all the web sites you have and every web page that any of your visitors has the ability to view. And it needs to be EVERY SINGLE PAGE. - MAP out all of the email ‘contact’ that you have with any prospect or customer; this could be emails that get sent from your autoresponder after someone subscribes to your list, or a thank you email your site sends after someone submits an order, etc. List EVERY point of contact where an email is sent to someone. After you take some time and map out ALL of your marketing ‘touchpoints’ (web pages and emails) it’s now time to find INCOME LEAKS. I guarantee you that right now you are not taking advantage of everything you already have to work with. Think about it… On the “Thank You” page that loads, for example, after someone submits an online form to opt-in to your list, are you promoting any of your products on that page? Are you promoting affiliate offers? Are you running AdSense ads? When your site sends out emails, for example, like an emailed copy of a receipt for a product someone just purchased from you, do you include a promo for another one of your products or for an affiliate offer that earns you a commission? “Thank You” pages and other ‘Response’ confirmation pages and emails are some of the BEST places to promote other things that will generate income for you. The reason is because you are getting something in front of someone that JUST RESPONDED to something else. This isn’t a PASSIVE web site visitor. It’s someone that just TOOK ACTION that you asked them to take. So these prospects and customers are the most likely to TAKE ACTION AGAIN and click on an affiliate link, or go check out a video you created, or go buy another one of your products, or go and take any action you’d like them to take at that time. Take some time to fully AUDIT every single web page you have on the Internet as well as every single email that’s a part of any ’system’ you use and you are sure to find INCOME LEAKS and opportunities where you could INSTANTLY be making more money if you simply used that precious real estate to get other offers in front of people. It’s so easy for entrepreneurs (myself included) to put up another web site or project and move on to other things without MAXIMIZING every little piece of real estate that we can use to make money. So it’s a good idea for you to do this “Leak Detection” process on a regular basis as you continue to add more sites, pages, email follow-ups, etc. to your online marketing. AWESOME UPDATE: Less than an hour after I posted this someone messaged me on Twitter to tell me that they applied it to a Thank You page and made a quick $145 in affiliate commissions! (And they’ll continue to make money from that addition on a regular basis.) Gotta love taking action! If you’re not already, make sure to follow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/johnreese |

Great post John - really valuable advice on improving conversion rates.
I’ve re-tweeted!
February 25th, 2009 at 8:07 am
That is sound advice. Im a big fan in assessing my sites and online presence but often its getting the time to do so. Just recently i have brought in a full time staff member which is making it a lot easier. Really is just training them up first to become like a second you which does take some time but the long term benefits out weigh the short term losses.
February 25th, 2009 at 8:20 am
Thanks John! Great to see you posting again!
February 25th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Excellent post and something I need to do. It’s always great to go back and revisit pages with fresh eyes and new knowledge that has been acquired since the last time I saw the page.
February 25th, 2009 at 8:58 am
Well said there John.
Though, keep the marketing leaks focused on what the customer wants. Last thing you want to do is offer something that is totally off the mark.
February 25th, 2009 at 10:54 am
John,
Another timeless lesson.
I try to do this once a quarter on my main sites.
Almost every time I find something…be it small or large…in terms of “marketing leaks” as you put it. Keeping those offers targeted is very important.
February 25th, 2009 at 10:55 am
The issue of not missing these promotional opportunities is something that Mark Joyner stressed in his latest book - Integration Marketing.
You must make use of your traffic streams.
February 25th, 2009 at 10:58 am
With a website I have over 1000 pages of offers and income streams…
I know there is many spots dripping lost revenue because I havnt taken the time
to index and loop it all together….. This was an awesome article even to
a marketer like me it makes sense.. Here is some blog love

February 25th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Hey John,
Great post. Earlier this week, I decided my entire month of March will be spent doing this type of “leak audit” on my various sites.
I have over 20 active sites, and over 100 segmented lists. So I know it’s going to take a lot of fine toothed combs. But I can see what it’s going to do to my business without having to create anything new or chase down some other shiny object.
Thanks for validating that decision with your excellent post today!
Bob Jenkins
p.s. I’d add that in any of my existing PDFs, I could do a better job of linking my other sites together - not just on the download/thank you pages. This is especially true for reports and transcripts that came out a year ago before half of my sites were created.

John,
I applied this to one of my sites, and the results happened almost immediately. I’m going to use this and pass it on to my clients, too. Thanks!
February 25th, 2009 at 11:09 am
John,
Another fantastic post. I think this is one area (obviously) that people are not taking advantage of nor really think it’s available. I think people get caught in the rut of trying to get their websites up as quickly as possible and then try and go back later to do it right. As we all know going back later is always 10 times harder then just doing it right the first time. I find myself doing that all the time and it’s time to change ways and do it right the first time. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

Excellent post John. Thanks for this profitable reminder. I’m afraid to see just how many of these leaks I have!
With that said, here’s a resource I’ve personally used to plug up SOME of my profit “leaks”. Go to OTOGoldmine.com. You’ll get instant pre-made Clickbank product offer pages that you can easily integrate with your sites, thank you pages, etc.

Wow. How much more obvious can it be? If you think about it, just how many pages are we wasting by not offering something? It doesn’t cost anymore to make the offer, except for the money we’re just throwing away!
Great post, John. I’m going back through my blog posts and sites now, fixing this massive opportunity.
February 25th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Cool tip, John. Thanks. Very basic yet often overlooked.
Create an upsell, cross-sell, or downsell - whatever you like. Just put an offer. The person is still in buying mode, so there’s no better time to make another offer than after they purchased something.
February 25th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Good ideas. But what if you have thousands of websites with numerous pages per site. This can get to be a huge undertaking. At least I have a system that builds sites and pages automatically so if I tweak the script all your pages are monetized via Clickbank, CJ, Amazon, eBay, Adsence etc.. It is always a good idea to loop from one page back to another within your own network. After all, you are spending your valuable time getting traffic in the first place, you should always keep visitors within your own universe as long as possible and invite them back often just as you did with this post!

Sweet, John! A good reminder for us to work the details -there are a lot of cracks and crevices that can bleed your results off if you’re not careful. Making lists -having a plan to cover everything FIRST -is critical if you want to maximize success.

Gem of a tip, John. It really is the simple things, sometimes, isn’t it?
I’ve been guilty of having my focus elsewhere on things like content creation, site design etc, but you’ve just reminded me that if you take your eye off the ball you shouldn’t be surprised you’re not kicking field goals. Monetisation front and centre again. Thanks!

John,
As always, you suggestions are full of merit.
Do you have a tool that you use to “map-out” your pages? Not a mind-map (which I love to use) but one that will capture site maps and give a snap shot that you can add notes to to maximize profit opportunities. And, if it does not exist, this is a money-making opportunity in itself.

John,
I like the map you put up and it brings to the forefront an idea I knew about but needed a reminder.
Going through your current funnel and seeing where the leaks are is very important. I just setup a 2 step upsell process for a client which is working very well and converting at 25% to the upsell. Now if only I could get them to get the SSL so we could do a 1 click upsell where they didn’t have to re-enter their info again…

Also if you have a video with auto-re-direct you can pre-sell even more…
February 26th, 2009 at 12:01 am
I have heard this before but never used it yet. The reason I never did this is,
it has been done to me a number of times. I always get a bit upset when buying
something, and then they come up with another thing. I say to myself, when I give them a finger they want the whole hand.
Though sometimes I do buy the other offer, provided it is something I really
can use.
Anyway, I think it’s time to implement this too.
Thanks for the post!
February 26th, 2009 at 12:40 am
A real good sharing indeed! Most of the time we as marketers put ourselves into the shoes of our customer and “try” to think of how they will react when they see another promotion. They probably get annoyed by it? They probably won’t see it? Most of the time we always get it wrong.
Great post! Thanks,
Terry

Hi John.
What you are suggesting is quite true and an effective marketing approach however, I am finding the claim that someone has managed to pocket $145 in less than an hour of posting your thoughts rather difficult to believe. Let’s break this down to see why I think this is just another ‘oh, you must read this NOW’ tactic. Here it goes, correct me if I am wrong…
let’s say it takes 5 minutes to read your post
5 minutes (may be more depending on the level of internet knowledge) to analyse the concept in your head
how many minutes to MAP your website? unless it is just a single page I would say 10 or 15 minutes, difficult to determine. Let’s say 10 minutes
How many minutes to MAP out all of your email contacts?
How many minutes to find INCOME LEAKES?
How many minutes to decide on and find what you want and how many of them (aff stuff, adsence etc) you want to promote in your Thank You page?
How many minutes to implement what you have decided on promoting
How many minutes to test what you have implemented actually works
Are we assuming there is an army of readers waiting to read this guy’s post or visit his site (bearing in mind we are talking about ‘buyers’ not ‘info seekers’)?
How often is this guy’s blog/web page visited? every second, every minute, every 5 minutes?
How long does it take for a visitor to take action when he/she sees another offer in the Thank You page?
Are you saying all of the above happened in less than an hour of posting your thoughts in Twitter?
February 26th, 2009 at 6:17 am
Thank you John …another great source of information!

Raymond,
Why would I risk my reputation and business to make fraudulent claims??? And especially about something I’m using in FREE CONTENT!
The person’s name is Rich Peck and he stated his quick results publicly on Twitter. You can go to search.twitter.com and see for yourself. Here is a copy of his Twitter message (that was made publicly):
——-
@richpeck: @johnreese holy cow - just made $145 commissions by plugging a popular niche product on one of my “Thank You” pages! Thanks
February 26th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Internet Marketing is partly your capability of being found throughout the entire process of a visitors search experience…remember this folks
So it only makes sense to find these leaks John speaks of. Some may look at this as “overkill” but when it comes to intelligent branding, there is no such thing as “overkill”!
February 26th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Excellent Tip John,
I would say at least 50% of my affiliate commissions come from an affiliate offer that I have on the thank you page of people who subscribe to my list to receive a free report I offer to my niche. In fact, I actually make more money in affiliate commissions than I make on sales of the actual product that I offer to this list. It does help though that the offer that I use pays lifetime commissions on the life of the customer, so whenever they come out with a new product and email everybody, I make money.
I do need to go through my emails though and add some more links in my emails.
February 27th, 2009 at 1:24 am
This method had already been used by other marketers in their campaign for some time, it works period. Just to share : There’s one more method that had been known but very few ppl used it. That’s the “error 404 page.” Check your server traffic report there’ll always be a portion of your site traffic goto this page … and it will go to waste. Customise your error 404 page(selling products/affiliate) today, and you’ll be suprised how many extra bulks you can get from this shift.

Thanks for the tip John, or should I say kick in the pants. I try not to send anyone to a

things like this slide. It’s crazy because it’s just leaving money on the table. You’ve

while the iron is hot. My To Do List just got bigger.

February 27th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Great advice! A couple of months ago I did this to one of my sites. But in my case, I took off something on almost all of the Web pages. The results were simply shocking to me. I took off the contextual advertising! It’s sound like a dumb move BUT it was the best thing I ever did. Because then the funnel on the site was different and it lead my traffic flow to the money pages, verses an ad that did not serve what they were looking for.
What’s better, earning $1.00 or $100.00 off one visitor? Yes, in most cases people aren’t going to buy from you right away… but in my results the advertising was a huge road block… so I got rid of it and it = more money for me.
Taking off the advertising actually helped me make more money. It was so weird but that was the result. I believe testing is the only way to see what works and what doesn’t, as the numbers and results don’t lie.
Your advice is solid, after all you are the OG of Internet Marketing.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, John.

Absolutely great hint here. Often Internet Marketers simply think they need more traffic. Often, they just need to convert more of the traffic they already get!

This is so true…
In the past I’ve had quite a few sales from email confirmation pages & sign up pages but it’s easy to forget about them with the result that the promoted products are stale & out of date.

John, thanks for the fantastic information! I like what you said about mining the riches from what we already have, before running around and starting a lot of new ventures. I’m going to take this to heart for my own sites before starting others!

This is great reminder of how a professional Internet marketer never loses sight of the profit potential of every detail of the business.
It’s too easy to rush from one site to another without stopping to maximize the money you can make from what you’ve got.
Thanks, John, for another priceless tip!

I am an Opportunity.com subscriber and am a big fan of the product. (I hope to be a bigger fan of the product once I start making money. : ) ) Anyway, I was watching one of the tutorials today, and it really hit me how genuine you are and that you are really doing your best to provide a quality product. That led me to think that you should team up with business schools and offer Internet Marketing 101 as a class. Internet Marketing gets a bad rap because of all of the spam and crap out there, but it would be a very useful skill for any company to have.

It’s funny that some of the most simple things are the ones that can bring success FASTER than anything else, yet we tend to overcomplicate things.
Thanks John
