Opportunity Is Definitely Knocking | |||

Read this entire post for some information that you definitely need to know to take advantage of some opportunities that are right in front of your nose whether you realize it or not. (More on that in a moment.) Sorry for the lack of blog posts and communication lately. I’ve been extremely busy working with my team on creating some really valuable stuff for you. We’re going to finally start rolling things out very soon and throughout this entire year. There is A LOT of amazing stuff on the way. So buckle up! If you’re looking to start an online business to make an additional income, or if you’re ready to explode your existing business, then make sure and be ready for some announcements that will be coming very soon. One major announcement will be made before the end of this month (February). The development of Income.com itself has taken a lot longer than I had originally planned. We, as a young startup company, have been through many ups and downs. Our primary issues have been technology related. I won’t go into all the gory details, but let’s just say we had to abandon well over a year’s worth of programming code to start all over due to a change in our programming team. But sometimes in life, and in business, you have to take a step back to be able to take several steps forward. I strongly believe in our mission at Income.com and know we will be creating a legacy. I know we will help thousands of people and their families with our new Web shows and everything else that’s in the works. It’s going to be a lot of fun too. So stay tuned. Opportunity Is Knocking But Are You Answering? Right now the global economy is going through a rough time. And it may even get worse before it gets better. But in any situation, even during the Great Depression, there is always a massive amount of opportunity to build wealth - you just have to be willing to seize it. Know this… Opportunity is all around you. I recently had a great discussion with one of the top Internet marketers in the world, and someone who is a very close friend… Frank Kern. In this discussion I asked Frank this question… “In your opinion, what’s the one major thing entrepreneurs should be doing right now?” And his answer was simple… “Make offers.” Frank hit it right on the head. If you want to make money, and lots of it, you have to be making offers. That is the one action that makes more money than anything else. Making offers. Whether it’s creating your own new products to offer to your customers, or running a special discount offer, or even promoting someone else’s product where you get paid, making offers is what creates the cash. Not fiddling with SEO. Not posting on Twitter all day. Not surfing Facebook. Not hanging out on discussion forums. And not spending countless hours of your time on research. Now all of those things certainly have value, and some of them have a lot of value. But without making offers and selling stuff you aren’t going to make much money. There is PLENTY of money for you to make right now. Don’t let this economic situation “fake you out” into thinking people aren’t buying stuff anymore. It couldn’t be further from the truth. You just need to ACTIVELY make offers if you want to make more money. Let me tell you a quick story… As you may or may not know from some of my previous posts and email newsletters, I’m a huge saltwater aquarium enthusiast. As soon as I bought my house a few years ago the first thing I did was start designing my “ultimate” aquarium. After weeks of doing research, and figuring out how much space I had to work with, I ended up designing (on paper) a 10 foot wide, 1,000 gallon aquarium. So after 6 months of anxiously waiting, it was finally custom built for me and installed. Here’s a photo of it with me standing in front of it to give you some perspective on how big this sucker is:
Back to the story… I have this aquarium serviced & managed every week by an aquarium specialist. They keep track of the chemical balances, clean the aquarium, and do a lot of other maintenance. Having a tank of this size takes quite a bit of work — especially since the saltwater evaporates non-stop and has to be refilled. (We use an automated system for that.) Bill, the guy who owns the company that services my aquarium has become a good friend. We’re both big sports fans and often watch games together and hang out. Of course, just from hanging out with Bill we’ve had many discussions about business and marketing. I’m constantly trying to give him advice and help him grow his company. Well, recently he came to me and was almost in a bit of a panic… “John, I really need to talk to you about my business. I know when we hang out you prefer to get away from the marketing talk since that’s part of your work, but I could really use your help.” I, of course, said I’d be glad to help and asked what his problem was. He proceeded to tell me… “This economy is absolutely killing my business. I’ve never seen it this bad. Usually I could count on a steady flow of referral business but that is way down now. I’m really worried.” The first thing I told him was, “Don’t panic.” That’s the most dangerous thing anyone can do. Every problem has a solution, you just have to analyze the situation and create a strategic plan. I asked him several questions about how he was currently running things, what his options were, etc. and the conclusion and ’solution’ I came to was simple… HE JUST NEEDED TO MAKE OFFERS. Referral business in many ways IS down right now. Some of the older more ‘passive’ ways for many entrepreneurs to generate sales in ANY business is no longer consistent. And in many cases, like his, it has all but gone away. (At least for now due to the current economy.) But with so much opportunity all around us, it’s usually just about getting PROACTIVE and making offers and making things happen. And that’s exactly what I told Bill do. I told him he needed to be proactive and call his customers and offer specials on certain items. Stop by some of the locations (many of them restaurants or doctors’ offices) and bring some corals and fish and tell them, “I think this would look really great in your tank, would you like to buy it?” I also instructed him to be more active in ASKING his customers for referrals and inquiring about other aquarium needs. Now he was already doing ’some’ of this, but just not a lot. That wasn’t his main focus. Like many entrepreneurs he was content with the referral business he was already getting and the revenue that was coming in from his “old ways.” He agreed to give it a shot and less than a week later I got an excited call from him telling me that things were looking up very, very quickly. From the very moment he ’stepped up his game’ and got more proactive about making offers and taking action to produce more ACTIVITY in his business, the money started rolling in again. And now he’s actually in a position to really GROW things bigger than they ever were. And it’s all because he got more active in MAKING OFFERS. Are You Making Offers On A Regular Basis? If you want to make more money that’s all you need to do. Make offers. Frank Kern made it sound and seem so simple but it really does just come down to that. Frank’s a super successful marketer because he has the gift of cutting out all the nonsense and just getting to the stuff that brings in the cash. Frank recently helped, of all people, Tony Robbins with this exact “offers” stuff I’ve been talking about. Yes, Tony ‘Freakin’ Robbins. And it’s no surprise that Frank’s simple advice and plan made Tony a bunch of money that his company wasn’t making. It was the ultimate no-brainer. Check Out This Amazing Video With Frank & Tony Robbins And A Soon-To-Be-Rich 13 Year Old Kid! * I highly recommend every product, course, free report, video, or advice of any kind that Frank ever puts out. He is truly one of the top marketers in the world and has helped so many people (including ME) make a lot of money in their business. I’ll be in touch with more news soon. NOW GO MAKE SOME OFFERS! “Not posting on Twitter all day”, that gets me all the time, I spend allot of time doing just that, rather than doing something more productive.
This post hit the nail on the head especially for me, especially being someone that does not make allot of offers, I really need to get myself in gear here and do it allot more, product creation time here I come, get it done right.
Oh, and if making offers can get me a house supported by marble pillars, im all up for that, it beats the 2×6 I have now:). Nice tank, how many Betta fish you got in it?;))

Great to see a new post here John, excellent info as always

Making offers always was an agressive way of marketing strategy. I doubt it was less effective in former, before-crisis, times - but you are right - more people see something interesting (offers) more they got attracted.
February 13th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
So true. Sometimes you have to ask for the business. You have to be creative - all the time… it works. I really liked the part about “dont panic”. Fear is a big problem in todays society. I cant dwell on fear anymore. I dismiss it immediately. It gives me heartburn and a headache to worry about what might happen.
February 13th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
People who pay to much attention to the naysayers tend to get mauled by wolves, at least according to chicken little. To quote Frank Kern, follow the money! It is still there. It has only moved. Go to it, its calling you, LOL!
February 13th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Great post, John. I had a smart mentor who told me once that if I wanted to make more money I had to “get more stuff into the marketplace.” Same theory but a little more eloquent. Keep up the good work!
February 13th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Can’t wait to see Income.com come to life!
Great blog post, too. And a nice read for anyone who wasn’t lucky enough to be on the excellent call you did with Frank Kern last week.
By the way, that 14 year old who did so well using Mass Control is also a Traffic Secrets 2 owner, I believe! So you should get some credit too, John

John your a genius!
I have a video training program which shows people the tips and tools I have used to earn over $8-million working online mainly in the MLM industry.
I’m going to go and change my price which is currently $197 retail marked down to $47. I’m going to do something crazy for the next few days where I will allow people to set their own price “make an offer” on my entire system.
I will accept any and all offers no matter how low or high.
I own your ‘Traffic Secrets’ system and love it.
I will post here my results from the weekend.

Wow great post. Making more offers seems like such a simple notion.
But, you know what I’ve been running into a lot lately. Especially myself.

Glad to see you back after emails problems solved.
Really, the economic trouble implies we need to be more inventive and not panic with the waves. The need to make more offers has to be connected with more productivity and management of our time, otherwise we’ll not be able to face the odds.
February 13th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Now I know why I’m not makeing the money. Needed to be knocked upside the head to realize that people cannot “guess” what I want them to do next. Can’t wait to change the tone of my emails to my list and change stuff on my sites.
Thanks.

Yep, its a great time to make money. The tides are changing and if you apply the right strategy and look for new opportunities - particulary in exporting, and reaching a global audience - your business can grow, even in these tough times.

Thanks for the update on why I haven’t heard “offers” from one of my favorite “offer makers” lately.
What your sharing here John reminds me of something out of Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich,”
‘Your achievement can be no greater than your PLANS are sound. That may seem to be an axiomatic statement, but it is true. And no one is ever whipped until that person QUITS - in his or her own mind.’
It is a subtle thing how our mind either “slips from” or more likely “QUITS before we take any ACTION” in the first place.
Myself now being in a position of taking ACTION with a specific PLAN, it quickly becomes apparent how few around me have any real “PLAN” at all. In fact, I was the same and had to leave behind that state of mind. It was someone making an offer to me that gave me the opportunity to CHOOSE…what did I choose? A NEW STATE OF MIND
Now, when I “Make Offers” I find that I am extending this new State of Mind. One that requires my having a PLAN to make offers, and taking the ACTIONS of that PLAN. My experience is that people are desperate in these times for OFFERS, really any type of offer. Especially when what has been offered up to now clearly has not gotten us any further than where we already are.
Again, I think it was Napoleon Hill who said something like: “The price of ability to influence your mind (or anyone elses) is everylasting PERSISTENCE.”
Making Offers clearly goes hand-in-hand with PERSISTENCE. Persistence as the fuel for a State of Mind that places Action behind a Specific PLAN.
The short of it is…Making Offers is a great Plan!!!
Thank you for the re-mind-er to make offers, inspiring others to do the same. And, to be grateful when someone makes us an offer, it sure beats the alternative.

Hi John,
Great post and I can see many of us who already have an existing prospecting and client base to work with can make more offers. However, what about the brand new person who is just getting started in internet marketing? How can they make offers when they don’t have anything to make offers for or anybody to make offers to?
February 13th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
John you and Frank do a great job of cutting through the bull. If you want more money you need to make more offers. If you are not making any money you are probably not making many offers.
By growing your list you can quickly make more offers faster vs waiting on organic traffic or even worse ppc.
I need to go come up with a new offer …

I almost thought Tony Robbins was actually above needing help!
February 13th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
If you say “I think this would look really great in your tank, would you like to buy it?” you’ll get either a yes or a no. More likely a “no”. Better to phrase it something like “I think these would look really great in your tank…and they’re only 50 bucks - would you like two or three?”
February 13th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Be hyper active and give value in your offers - yes this is helping right now for me! Try it.

That’s a great post John. Sometimes you can read and read but every now and again you read and go “whoa!”.
A good wake up you’re bringing there in these difficult times.
February 13th, 2009 at 6:30 pm
Love the aquarium!! Thanks for sharing your friends experience. It is so true, that there is always a way, if we just look at things from a different perspective.
And one might never believe the simple brilliance of Frank Kern, just by looking at his ’surfer’ appearance. His advice is straightforward, and to the point. There is no subterfuge to confuse people, and he comes across as being such a ‘real’ person… that is his charm. I tend to take his words of advice quite seriously.
The above goes for you as well John. Ummm.. except for the ’surfer boy’ look. Even though you have a pretty great sense of humour, I tend to take your offers of advice seriously as well.
February 13th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
My economy is booming in this recession because I’ve learned and absorbed innovative strategies from a few powerful mentors like yourself! It comes down to strategy and offers like you stated. Opportunity for success in online marketing has never been better
February 13th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
John,
Thanks for the reminder, “Make an offer” or “just ask”.
Always enjoy Franks videos, never know what he will come up with next. One thing I noticed is that either by his influence or choice all his associates are highly successful as well.
February 13th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
This is great advice and made me really think about a couple of things.
February 13th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Good thoughts. Often times I think companies flip out for no reason when sales go down. The way they were running before didn’t require anything but a token strike-through text on a higher dollar amount and the ‘new’ price beside it. When times are tough and you want to keep sales going you’ve gotta bring out the sales offers. New, creative offers that maybe combine services or products in new ways are something to try. Heck, everything is something to try since, if you don’t start selling you’re going to start nosediving.
February 13th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
This is another pep talk that works. I have keeping a smart outlook on this ‘downturn’ thanks for posting this it keeps guys like me going. I try to be an optimist as always. Gotta go and make more offers.
February 13th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
John: Thanks for the great advice in this post. Both you and Frank have the unique ability to crystalize what is necessary in order to realize success in this business.
In every business there are two or three daily action steps that are required for that business to succeed. And I’m quite confident that getting your marketing message in front of your prospect (i.e. Making Offers) is one of the key action steps for almost every business.
I wish you all the best with your upcoming product launch. Can’t wait to see what you and your staff have been working on.

John,
I loved the write up and “call to action” to “just do it” and make some offers today. Not tomorrow or in a week, focus on what makes money and without offers there may not be any customers.
I will commit to have at least one ad running tomorrow on Valentines Day and to update the look and ability to buy something at my blog at http://clayfranklin.com.
Then I will make small changes or split test particulars to consistantly improve the performance of the conversion.
All the while providing value to prospects in a consistant and helpful way.

Thanks for this post about making more offers and looking for opportunities that actually abound even in these difficult times.
I have already planned that this year will be my best ever in terms of making online income. If you are still procrastinating, you have already lost a month and half of this year.
Look out for the opportunities that abound. Search them out and make maximum use of them and make this year the best ever for you; cash crunch or no cash crunch.

I agree with you about making offers. I starting networking through Meetup.com. I signed up for a couple of entrepreneur groups to meet people and to see which ones will work for me. I’ve been to one meetup and it was ok. The organizer is looking for the “next big thing” so he can be on top of it when the economy starts to come back. We’ll see what happens…

Making offers is very important in business success, expansion and productivity. Not making offers stagnate and ultimately kill industry [personal or corporate].

John,
So great to hear from you again, finally.
You are so right Opportunity Definitely is Knocking that is why I took the plunge in setting up an LLC for my company.
Although we are holding back our start up it is because MyCorporation services for my articles have not been completed.
A type of business service one should find locally or do your self.

Hello John
Spot on advice. Frank’s videos are pretty inspirational and your example is a valuable lesson.
I don’t know who said it first, but the advice to drive your business forward by doing something positive to build it every day is something I always try to follow.
When I final went from procrastination to action it absolutely transformed my business.

This is the exact, fundamental thing that so many people skip. And then when they hear about it, they still want to skip it. Especially established entrepreneurs. It’s so easy to get comfortable. When the economy changes, new opportunities abound, but you have to adapt and shake things up, or you’ll go down with the ship. Staying put is not an option. You can either get richer or dead broke.
February 14th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Great reminder, John! I’ve spent much of my career online generating lots of content and then waiting for people to “reward” me by spontaneously deciding to throw business my way.
As you point out, that doesn’t work. Like you described with your friend — and like I’ve seen with myself and many other business owners — it’s too easy to get caught up in the parts of the business with our passion is and, in the process, forget that all we usually have to do is ASK for people’s business in order to get it.
Excuse me. Time to get back to taking that content and turning it into something I can make an offer for.
February 15th, 2009 at 6:18 am
You nailed it. Too many people spend too much time doing things that they “think” are productive and important when in reality it is just an excuse or crutch fom doing the right things. Sell, Sell, Sell!!!!!
February 15th, 2009 at 10:20 am

February 15th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
John,
There’s a select group of marketers which have consistently put out quality stuff and you and Kern are in that group.
Many times ‘bad economy’ is just a matter of perspective. You shifted the aquarium guy’s perspective into a more active asking role and his business shot up.
I remember reading a story where in the last bad economy a Mercedes dealership’s sales were way down and one of the sales guys asked “Where are our customers?” at a meeting.
The idea took off and they started going to country clubs, spas, high end hotels and other venues where their customers hung out and offered them free weekend car trades.
After the weekend was over they’d go back to them ready to trade the old car back for the new Mercedes. A high percentage of the people said they couldn’t trade back. And so their sales soared because of this new thinking and implemented mantra.
February 15th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
John,
Thank you for sharing this empowering article. The truth is that money is still flowing. The fact that you put that awesome new custom fish tank in your mansion is proof that there’s plenty of opportunity.
It’s just shifted. I’ve discovered that the techniques that I used to rely on in the past don’t work so well anymore.
I made over $1 million with your TS1 course. You used 2 different testimonials of mine in your TS marketing. TS2 is top notch. But these courses are pretty different. your one of the few people that I pay close attention to and have learned the most from. Frank Kern is another.
It’s great to be part of this community. I love you guys
Aloha,
Brian Campbell

BUT, I knew there was a market for something completely different out there where I could be making offers…and lots of them. AND, even though it is a very competitive market, I have some background for instant credibility.
So thanks for affirming what I decided to do a week ago (after watching a few Frank Kern videos).
By the way, the two videos we get with Traffic Secrets of Frank gets right to the point.
Thanks!
Theresa

John,
One thing that many do not remember in an economy downturn is that those that sit tight do just that: SIT. In fact they slowly wither away.
Those that put what they have into tested effective promotion, advertising, and just plain go out and pound the pavememt and meet new people at least may break even. I am supporting and promoting local meetings and building local community to build a foundation for my Google Friend Connect applications.
If you break even and your competition dies? You are the last one left standing.
I did it in social bookmarking (the ones selling spam software moved on to selling some other junk) and I will do it with Google social marketing.
Who was it that said “Most quit just as they are about to achieve success?”

Great post! MAKE OFFERS! I guess that could be a big problem in making money… if there is no offer how can you make money.. at all? makes sense.
I need to start making more offers.
Thanks for the great post John!
That looks like a huge aquarium too! gotta have some pretty cool creatures in there!

Hi John,
Good point. I did exactly what you requested and you wouldnt believe some of the leaks I had. Some were just simple mistakes and some just bad business so thank you for suggesting this great exercise.

John,
Thanks for the great information. I tend to get distracted online at times and really need to make more offers. I’ve found lots of great offers to promote while I’m distracted online, but they aren’t doing me any good if I don’t spend my time offering them! I printed your post so I can hang it up to keep me more focused!
Thanks again,
Lori James

John,
Great article. I also just “discovered” your course Traffic Secrets 2.0. I guess I owe you a testimonial for this course because it’s hands-down the most thorough course I’ve purchased in YEARS on how to drive traffic to a website — and I really, really needed this information because I think I have one of the best websites but it has remained a relative “sectet” in my niche because I had ignored the SEO aspect of getting traffic to my website. Anyway, thanks for the thorough, detailed course. I can tell much thought, attention to detail, and pide went into making it. Also it’s frankly a steal at the price you’re charging vs. what I’ve gotten in other courses. Keep up the good work.
Best,
Ben Cummings

This was great advice. I’m recommending this article to many of our clients who are struggling in this economy. Making offers is something we’ve always done, and we’ve been doing more of it lately. There’s nothing wrong with educating clients about the possibilities for improving their life or their business. Most the time, they’re grateful for the information.
