How To Get Everything You Want In 24 Hours | |||
|
| ||
|
Have you ever seen the Hugh Grant movie, About A Boy? If you haven’t seen it you should rent it because it’s a great movie. But if you have seen it then you’ll recognize the following quote from Grant’s character “Will”… I find the key is to think of a day as units of time, each unit consisting of no more than thirty minutes. Full hours can be a little bit intimidating and most activities take about half an hour. Taking a bath: one unit, watching countdown: one unit, web-based research: two units, exercising: three units, having my hair carefully disheveled: four units. It’s amazing how the day fills up, and I often wonder, to be absolutely honest, if I’d ever have time for a job; how do people cram them in? I’ll admit the title of this post is a bit misleading. It reads like you can get everything you want “in under 24 hours” but that’s not what I mean by it. I used this title to not only get your attention but to demonstrate the POWER of this statement if you fully grasp it. In order for you to accomplish anything in life you have to learn the power of INCREMENTAL SUCCESS. Let me explain how it works… It doesn’t matter what you want to accomplish… making a million dollars, losing 50 pounds, learning to speak French, etc. In order for you to accomplish what it is that you want you MUST achieve your goal incrementally. There’s no other way for it to happen - it’s IMPOSSIBLE. No one makes a million dollars without making $1 first. No one loses 50 pounds without losing 1 pound first. And no one becomes fluent in French without learning how to say “bonjour” first. So now that we’ve established that accomplishing anything you want must come through incremental progress, then you realize that success is created by a series of smaller accomplishments that add up to the final goal. The next thing for you to understand is the process of TIME UNITS. Just as the character in About A Boy managed his entire life, you need to understand how time is applied towards incremental progress for ANYTHING you want to accomplish. The main unit of time in our lives is THE DAY. That 24-hour period that repeats again and again until one day we die. It’s what we live our lives by. Every day is an important day and in order to accomplish everything you want in your life you must account for each and every day. Do you know why the kiss of death in trying to accomplish anything in life is the old mantra of I’ll start on it tomorrow? And you know exactly what I’m talking about. You have that product you want to create. The one that will make you more money. Or that new blog to set up. Or that affiliate marketing campaign to put together. Yet somehow you easily convince yourself, “I’ll start on it tomorrow.” And you lose yet another day of your life that you’ll never get back where you made ZERO INCREMENTAL PROGRESS. When we are living any given day it’s so easy to put things off. It’s so easy to procrastinate. It’s so easy to convince ourselves that tomorrow we’ll start going to the gym. Tomorrow we’ll start eating healthier. Tomorrow we’ll do some writing that we’ve been putting off. Tomorrow we’ll start studying Japanese. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Well, there’s a reason why most people don’t accomplish that much. There’s a reason why it seems like WEEKS or even MONTHS go by and you haven’t accomplished things you know in your heart you really want yet you haven’t made any progress towards them at all. It’s because it’s so easy to put things off until tomorrow. So Here’s What You Need To Understand… This is exactly what changed my life when I was struggling as an entrepreneur and really helped me break-through to finally building wealth for myself… If you are trying to accomplish anything, in this case growing your income, you must do something every single day towards accomplishing your goal. Let me repeat that… YOU MUST DO SOMETHING EVERY SINGLE DAY TOWARDS ACCOMPLISHING YOUR GOAL. It doesn’t matter how big or how small this effort has to be. It just has to be SOMETHING. So every day that passes in your life you will incrementally be closer to getting everything you want. It’s a simple, yet powerful concept. If you want to lose weight, for example, then just walk 1/2 mile each day. Not a mile. Not 5 miles. 1/2 mile. If you walk 1/2 mile each day that’s like walking 3.5 miles a week. Walking 3.5 miles seems pretty far to most people. But 1/2 mile is nothing. Yet you get the same net result from walking 3.5 miles whether you accomplish it in one day or one week. Almost anything worth accomplishing in life seems BIG when we look at it from “Step 1.” Everything requires incremental progress. And most things require MANY steps to reach the finish line. When we are faced with everything we must do to accomplish any goal it often seems so overwhelming that it’s much easier to just put off starting it until another day. And that day often becomes a week, a month, a year, or more often than not… NEVER. If you want to grow your business you must be taking action every single day that contributes towards your goal. This doesn’t mean checking your email more, or looking at stats more, or “doing research” (i.e. surfing sites all day) it means putting in the work towards creating that product, or doing some writing for an article or blog post, or making a video you’ve been wanting to make, or setting up a site and testing some Adwords, etc. etc. Stop letting a single day go by when you aren’t making at least SOME incremental progress towards ALL your goals and it is IMPOSSIBLE that it won’t change your life for the better. Even if it’s just a small step each day. Because that’s a step you’ll never have to do again and you’ll be even closer to accomplishing your goal. Please make sure and follow me on Twitter! Also please ‘retweet’ or share this blog post with others and help them start 2009 off right! |

I couldn’t agree with you more John. I’ve not seen “About A Boy” but now I will. I like what Hugh Grant’s character said. I think it is very applicable. Allow me to summarise your post in 2 sentences…
“Every journey, long or short, starts with a single step.”
“Tomorrow never comes.”

Simple yet crucial advice John. We all tend to procrastinate and have that “I’ll put it off until tomorrow” attitude. Eventually tomorrow turns into one week which turns into month and then you realize how much more you would have accomplished by just taking ten minutes out each day towards achieving your goal.

Great stuff, John. My first time here (see…Twitter works, combined with a good headline), and it proved to be worth it.

Brilliant! I am going to print this article, (right now!) and read it every day!
If it motivates me to take even one small step closer to my goal, then I’m a winner!
Puts a smile on my face just thinking about it
Thank you John Reese for putting up a little tweet about this, just as I logged on to tweet before bed …. right place, right time!

Action… a huge key to success. HOWEVER…
The first action should be THOUGHT. THINK about what you want to accomplish. Set the date by which you will succeed and then plan back to today, so you see WHAT to do and by WHEN to do it.
So many people are BUSY, but that’s not what counts. SUCCEEDING (at anything in life) is what matters.
Just like any new skyscraper is built THREE times (once in the designer’s mind, then on paper so others can “see” the designer’s dream and join to make it happen, and then in the physical sense), so we must build our successes.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and here’s to everyone’s success!

That’s a great one, John. It’s true that you can get much more accomplished by doing one step at a time - I just need to do it! (actually I have started ‘getting started’ with the things I want to do - and it feels great. Even though the profit isn’t there yet, but at least I’m starting…

Thank you for an eloquent article, John. It addresses concepts of which we are all aware and plainly points out a manageable way to stop delaying and to just get started!

Hi John-A timely reminder as we reflect and move forward this time of year.
Thank you.

Great post. Wish there were more from you
I spent a lot of this year trying to overcome the problems you outline here, and I’m finally getting somewhere. 2009 will be a much better (and more productive) year thanks to my efforts, and timely reminders from things like your blog post.

John
We some times get wrapped up in our ever day lives and don’t realize how quickly time is passing us by. Your statement about taking some kind of action every day towards reaching your goal is so crucial. Once the ball starts rolling it spurs you on as it sinks in that you are actually getting closer towards accomplishing objective.
Great post John, thanks for sharing…

Hey Dude,
Great post man! It reminds me of a quote from Calvin Coolidge …
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is filled with educated derelicts. Persistence and dedication are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
I actually have a framed version of this quote hanging on my wall.
Again, thanks again for the great post.
Talk with you soon,

Hi John
Alot of food for thought & Great advice on focusing on incremental improvements, also one of the ways to combat feeling overwhelmed. Funny enough I was thinking the other day what can I do daily-no matter how small to get to my goals. This is in line with this post. However I am curious, what does does John Reese do daily to really grow his business? Especially when he has a product to launch. To achieve that level of success and be a market leader what does it take? Ideally what i would love to see is a diary of a week in the life of John Reese. Similar to the intro to Donald Trumps art of the deal..
Its ok to say I work hard..but how do you measure this? Modeling successful people requires a detailed knowledge of how they go about this. Would be interested in your thoughts…

George

This got me how to think about those big elephant projects. You know–eating them one bite at a time. In project managment you want to start big and break it down into intermediate and then daily actionable items- or items that can be completed within the next day. I love the idea of assigning units to them. This is really the next step in goal setting segmentation to break the day down into units. I am going to immediately start teaching this to my clients. Thanks!

Hey John,
Excellent post. You’re spot on as usual.
I discovered this concept when I first learned how to juggle. I’ve always had an interest in juggling, but considering I can barely catch, I felt I didn’t have the hand/eye skills to be able to juggle.
But I was determined and bought juggling balls. At first, things didn’t go very well, but I developed an incremental process to learn.
First I just concentrated only on being able to throw one ball in a “juggling motion” from one hand to the other. Once this became comfortable I concentrated on adding a second ball. With the second ball, I didn’t even attempt to be able to juggle the two of them, I just spent the time concentrating on being able to throw the second ball in time to catch the first ball. My goal at this point was to throw one ball, then the second, and catch the first. It didn’t matter where that second ball landed (often across the room, lol).
I just wanted to get comfortable with throwing one ball, throwing the second, and then catching the first.
With each step, I became more and more comfortable and was able to proceed to the next step.
Finally I was able to do the entire motion of juggling with 3 balls, but something was still missing. I could do the steps, but it didn’t feel like I was juggling.
It was only after more practicing that “something clicked” inside my mind. I was no longer going through the motion of juggling, but instead I was just juggling. It’s a strange feeling because once you “get it” you no longer are thinking about the process of juggling and concentrating on the motions of juggling… you’re just juggling.
I feel this is exactly how running a business, making money online, or doing anything in life works.
You hear the things that the “gurus” do to make money online, you follow their processes, you do all the things that they do, but you don’t see the same results.
It is because you’re just doing the motions. It’s too early in your learning stage for you to “get it”.
Just like John said, everything comes in stages. Just like me learning to juggle, your ability to make money online will only increase as you become comfortable with the individual processes. There will come a point where you will just get it and making money online will come as natural as riding a bike.
You just have to move past the stage of doing the motions to just doing it naturally. It’s this point that I believe when things move from your conscience mind to your sub-conscience.

Great post John, the most important is taking action. It’s either you do it, or you don’t do it, if you don’t have a “why” then you don’t know what you want to do.

It is that single step that can make or break you. What I like to do to set goals for myself is make what I call a “Goals-eye” It is like a bull’s-eye with the long term ultimate goal in the center, The midterm goals in the middle and the short term goals around the edge.
You see by doing this that the short term goals have the most room and are the hardest to achieve. The midterm goal section has incrementally less room, and the ultimate goal in the middle is just down to one goal.
It puts into perspective that the hardest part is the first step, you see large amount of short-term and midterm goals and it can be overwhelming, but when you get to the ultimate goal in the middle it does not look that intimidating anymore.
Basically what I am trying to say is you are absolutely CORRECT, the first step (being the short term goals) is the hardest part and it gets incrementally easier as you move toward you ultimate goal. GREAT INFO!!

This reminds me when I was 15 and keen on athletics.
For reasons not associated with this post, I was not allowed to ‘train’
as such. I had to go directly to school, and come straight back home.
I wasn’t allowed out after school or weekends unless it was a ’school activity’.
I realised that if I ‘ran’ to school, and ‘ran’ home. As well as ‘run’ everywhere in
school, I’d do even better at athletics (running) than my natural gift allowed.
I became the best in the county for my chosen distances and put it down to
‘managing’ micro-portions of training that others were able to do at will.
Great post

Thanks, John, for a timely reminder of something I always advocate but sometimes fail to do myself. Breaking big projects into smaller pieces and then accomplishing each piece one step at a time not only makes the whole project more manageable, it makes it much easier for your mind to grab hold of it and truly believe it can be done.

Hey John!
You are so insightful! I am so glad I read your post because that is just the mindset I need. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts… you have really changed my life. Your wisdom can hep in so many areas in my life, not just in starting a business or inventing a new product, but in being a wife and mom as well. There is so much to do that I’ve felt completely overwhelmed by everything as though I am failing in every aspect of life. I’m really going to use this knowledge to become a better wife, mother, student, employee, entrepreneur, and person. Thank you for giving me a new outlook… I’m sure mike will thank you too.

John,
Yeah, but there is a related problem: the hording or stockpiling of efforts…
The tendency to do “more”.
Since things have gone so well today for instance, instead of just going a 1/2 mile, I’ll go a mile and a half! Then, I can take the next two days off! (tortoise and hare)
Same amount accomplished it would seem, but the break in momentum can be the beginning of the end.
How to regulate our efforts, ensuring our momentum…
Do you have any ideas about that? I’d appreciate knowing more on that aspect. ..
When things are going well, I find it hard to quit, schedule or not. And I’m not sure that’s all bad…since I’m in the flow of things, why stop?
At the same time, if I am in a pattern of overdoing something, then recovering, and then overdoing it again, that isn’t exactly what you are writing about.
Is there a way to successfully harness the full gifts of passion and “flow” into half hour units?
By God, I think there is!!
I *know* there is.
It’s done all the time in music.
Passion and flow fit perfectly within the bars and measures of “time”.
Living life like a song.
Don’t “break” rhythm. And don’t lose the passion.
Thanks. I think I get it

Always timely with your advice John.
The new year is just 7 days away. Everyone will get the same 365 days (17,520 units according to your post.) That’s 17,520 chances to incrementally reach your goals…whatever they may be.
It took me a fraction of a unit to write this post, and it will be seen by hundreds, if not thousands of your visitors.
How will you spend each unit of 2009?

Gday John,
Excellent and timely advice. I’m re-reading Think and Grow Rich, a book that should be within arms reach of anyone, especially entrepreneurs.
More than a book, it’s a philosophy on how to get what you want out of life. It’s principles have been rehashed and tweaked for decades and can be seen in the works of Anthony Robbins among others.
Fix in your mind you goal. Have absolute faith that you will achieve. Set the plan down on paper and refer to it daily. Work the plan consistently.
Consistency pays of and you will see your incremental gains as you head towards your goal. Correct your course as necessary to hit your targets and have a blast doing it.
You only have the one life, might as well enjoy the ride.
Kind Regards,
Shane
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:05 am
Sound advice as we head into the new year. When a task seems too big, always break it down. Every item on your todo list should be able to be accomplished in an easy-to-handle, finite amount of time - but all adding up to something big.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:21 am
What a great article. I have been working on doing things more step by step, but this really put the time element in perspective. So many people, including myself are “all or nothing” thinkers. It’s hard to do something when you feel like it’s not everything ~ which always leads to doing nothing.
This was just what I needed to hear to help me moving on with doing “something” every day!
Thank you so much.

A great post John but there’s something either missing or implied that I think is worth bringing to the foreground.
Compound Interest.
And I am not talking about savings or the current economic situation, but the principle of compounding.
Doing one thing each day to move you forward is great, and a sure way to slowly get there but you can accelerate the process if you compound your actions or the results of your actions.
i.e. complete a task on Monday, come Tuesday ask yourself (or have it planned in from the beginning) how can I use the output of Monday today? Weds take Tuesday’s output and reuse it, build upon it, extend it (depends on the tasks and outputs obviously).
Compounding your actions or your results will help you to achieve your goal far quicker than simply doing stuff. Einstein referred to Compound Interest as the 8th Wonder of the World. By compounding your actions you are creating leverage and as Archimedes said, give me a long enough lever and firm place to stand and I can move the world.
Compounding your own actions means leveraging what you achieve today by using it to tomorrow. Then, to use a well worn IM expression, Rinse, Repeat
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 am
This is an excellent post, Shane. I’m with you all the way. It’s the principle of Kaizen, applied every day towards a bigger goal. The steps should be small enough that you can say, “I can do THAT!” when you see it on your list. Small habits towards large success! This is ESPECIALLY important with things like fitness and weight-loss, and so important to remember as we set up our New Year’s Resolutions.
Thanks again for sharing.

John, you can imagine the look on my husbands face when I asked him today if we were having Christmas dinner in the evening so I could get at least an hours work in.
Depends he said, if it is a beautiful sunny day we will go out and walk round a local lake with the dog (v cold but worth it), if it is horrible you can do your work. Why would I ask him, because not only is it his day as well, going out in cold windy weather makes me ill and he has to take over BUT there was no sitting on the settee for me, if the weather is bad I will carry on learning my new blog.
I am about to set my timer to 30 minutes to do the e-mail and honestly I do work with a kitchen timer on my desk - it makes sure a half hour on Facebook is not a whole afternoon.
Happy holidays and health, wealth and happiness for 2009.

Hello John,
What an outstanding post. It helps put things in perspective… which is not easy when you’re looking at a plate that’s running over with tasks that when broken down don’t seem quite as daunting as when they band together and loom over your head.
I am implementing your idea TODAY (not tomorrow or soon or …)
Have wonderful holidays & a grand 2009!

John as always you are just spot on. It is funny how we trick ourselves into thinking that tomorrow would always be better. You’ll have more time be less stressed whatever. I certainly have found for me that if I don’t have a success ritual for me to follow each morning that I get all out of whack and can fall into that habit of tomorrow.
The thing to think about that always helps me is looking back on something that you can relate this to in your life. For me its sports like snowboarding or rock climbing. You know when I first started snowboarding I didn’t just get on the lift and go do a double black diamond run. I had to take steps from flat ground, to the bunny slope, to green runs, then blue, then black diamond and finally to double black diamond.
Find something that you can really relate this to like I have and this idea will stick better for you. Not only that but when you find yourself wanting to think oh I’ll do it tomorrow you will be reminded much easier to take action today.

Good sound advice. I am one of those who does everything and finishes nothing.
Setting small goals everyday and taking them to the end is the key.

Great post John!
This is very important for everyone to remember everyday… This is just what someone who wants to get a goal needs to read and understand.
I really appreciate that, and I will ask you to write something next post to complete this one… Just write about discipline. How can you manage your life or your day in order to be doing something usefull to reach your goals!
Thanks a lot.

While I have not seen the movie mentioned, your post strikes a cord in me that I have been working on figuring out the past few months. I have too many ideas for new products, new blogs, new services and I start to try to plan something, and just get overwhelmed. I try to accomplish too much in too short of time - in other words I want to complete the entire new service in one day, rather than break it into blocks of time, and take each step towards the goal and actually finish it.
Thanks again!

Aloha John,
Thanks 4 writing this - AND creating alluring title so many would come 2 this article if yours & be enlightened. SooOOO many people see others who’ve succeeded neatly described in a 1-page PR narrative, Thinking, “Wow! S/He is an ‘overnight success’!” But what they Don’t seeeeee… are the blood, sweat & tears it took “incrementally” to arrive at the apex of the mountain.
About A Boy was a Fantastic movie. The soubdtrack, Hugh’s accent & the message has captured me into multiple viewings…each time getting something else out of the movie… “Love Actually” has the same effect…and you’ll love the beginning narrative re airports.
Anyhoo - thanks 4 this and 4 your contributions in the Twitterverse! You’ve turned so many brilliant people onto Twitter - making IT a better place to hang…incrementally.

Great blog post.
I have been trying to do this for some time and it is finally starting to snowball.
It takes momentum to get going.
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:54 am
“I thought of a good project,
of money making style.
And so I set to working on it for a while.
But then a new idea
Rose up before my eyes…
“Typing the code with my fingers,
Bringing to life something worse.
Killing me softly, distraction,
Killing me softly, distraction,
Taking my whole life, something worse.
Killing me softly,
Distraction.”
I’ve had one of those projects that’s going to make me a lot more money “in progress” for quite a few months. While I HAVE been making progress on it, it’s taken much longer than it should have because I’ve kept setting it aside to do quicker, though less lucrative projects.
Those projects HAVE made money. But recently, as I was again thinking “I should have focused more on this big money maker and not have gotten distracted by the little money makers”, it occurred to me that if, even when I was doing one of the little projects, I had spent enough time each day to make non-trivial progress on the big project, it would have been done long ago. And the little projects wouldn’t have been delayed much either.

I do not have a website but would like to build one for the least amount of $$$. Can you make any suggestions for me as to the tools I should use or the people or companies I should contact. Since you specialize in generating traffic I need to build a site to benefit from what you do. Right? I am signed up to learn the Arbitrage Conspiracy with Aymen in January. Can what you teach apply to that?

Great post.
As I tell all of my clients, “the secret is that there is no secret”
To many people spend their days looking for the secret that will finally make them rich and skinny, but the basics are all the same, get started and make corrections along the way.

This is absolutely true - haven’t seen the movie, but totally relate on a slightly different level.
For some of us its not “what we’ll put off to tomorrow”, some of it is being “too busy being too busy”. (Your paragraph that said “this doesn’t mean checking your email more… etc” was right on).
Its productivity at its best! Good post John.

No! It was tomorrow.
Hmmm maybe I should write things down, expecially my goals

Effective time management is so important in every aspect of our lives, not just business. We are on this earth for a relatively short period in the scheme of things.
Every second lost is lost forever - it ain’t ever coming back!
As I often like to say “Life ain’t no rehearsal”.
Live every day as if it were your last and you’ll have a life of adventure, a life full of memories.
Joining the woulda, coulda, shoulda brigade when I’m old and grey is not for me. Bring it on!
Be successful.

I agree and believe in daily goal setting, but are you suggesting one sets 30 minute goals. The hard part is keeping the target in focus and range. Your incremental progress suggestion may be perfect in a world of never ending problems that almost always stray one from the target.
December 23rd, 2008 at 1:18 pm
I agree. The reason I’ve been to co-write a movie script while running a business is because of this incremental approach. 2 units a day.

Wow! I’m so glad I wandered over from Twitter. This is timely as I plan for my 2009. I have a list, 3 pages long so far, of the things I’d like to accomplish. And writing them on that list does NOT move me forward. But I do have an awareness now to segment those goals and I make a vow today that I will move incrementally forward on each, 1 unit at a time.
Thanks so much for this motivating post! Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous New Year!

Hi John
Greetings and Christmas blessings from New Zealand.
Your thought is great advice. Too often I have been full of good ideas, plenty of which get air time in my head, some get promoted to and discussed with others, a few get some serious attention, but virtually none become prodcutive money-making projects.
I need to change that approach, so thanks for the kick in the pants
I appreciate your help in re-thinking my efforts on the internet.
If you’re ever down in New Zealand then it’d be great to met you and have a coffee.
God Bless

Hi John,
This is a great reminder as we are all thinking about the New Year and what we want to accomplish. I starting practicing this very thing about 4 months ago and also decided that I would hire a mentor to keep me on track and accountable for getting things done. I’m happy to say that I was just able to launch my first info product last month after really buckling down and putting the work in each day. It wasn’t easy, but I’m so happy I did it! This really works if you commit to it.
Blessings,
Paula

Thanks John,
I totally agree with your words of wisdom. Just let me add something that my teacher Zig Ziglar says: You have to BE before you DO and you have to DO before you HAVE. So when you know who you are, whatever you DO comes naturally from you. Everything IS you. So there´s no struggle if you love what you do or do what you love!
And I believe that everybody deep inside is aware of the fact that everything we do is either towards our success or failure.
Merry Christmas to all!
God bless.

How true. Incremental positive success will add up, but you must keep adding towards it every day. There is so much procrastination and “i need to learn” mentality around entreprenurial endeavors that people become in a state of analysis and action paralysis.
Just get it done…..and done today. Great message John!

December 23rd, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Great post.
Similar concepts in the book I just finished “Eat That Frog!”. Recommend it.
I think they key here is SMALL steps. We all get overwhelmed at one point or another with what we need to accomplish.
The smaller the steps the more tasks we can COMPLETE, which will give you confidence and makes the workload seem easier (more realistic).
Here’s how I accomplish this with writing blog posts:
1. Decide on a specific blog post topic or idea.
2. I break-down the main topic into many sub ideas/topics. The more specific the better. These are my small steps.
3. I complete each subtopic one-by-one (individual steps).
4. I write the original post by combining or linking to each subtopic.
It’s like working backwards and it’s working great!

You copycat! Just kidding.
I have a similar blog post too: http://www.lisaparedes.com/bloggg/reflecting-on-2008/
It starts with “NOW” and not “LATER.” Sometimes the “NOW” means that it takes lots of work and overcoming fears. When a loved one in my family was murdered I was deeply depressed and thought life could not go on. Two years later I was still in a deep depression until one day I noticed it was 2 years later. The point is move forward and not backwards. This can be applied to your business and your whole ENTIRE LIFE. Also, if you have to move forward slowly at least you are moving in the right direction and it is far better than not moving forward at all. And, no, I’m not depressed anymore.
Life is an adventure. And as far as I know we only get to live our life just once, so have fun and *TRY* to get everything you want out of life and not hold back. Excellent post John.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years,
Lisa

Thanks John…that is not only well said but more importantly well felt!
Sincerity and Passion are the 2 things that many have missing in their lives and they wonder why “Will Power” never delivers the success that they have always wanted.
The simple things we do in life achieve our wants and desires and its not as hard as many people think! ACTION is needed, then FOCUS & PERSEVERANCE or stickability as I like to call it; add together sincerity and passion for what you do both for your self and others on the journey and the rewards will certainly appear.
The issue for most people is the “I want it NOW syndrome” and don’t have the patience that is needed. If I may I would like to share a couple of things that I have read in the past that have stuck with me and has made a difference when things have been tough in my life is to remember how things seem to work on the principle of action-reaction!
What we project will be mirrored back to us. If we want our life to be perfect, then how we act and relate to others and help others is important. Consistency on our part will make things happen, not stopping because its getting too hard work or not interested anymore. And of course by patient - the reaction is sometimes not instantaneous, even though we want it to be.
I hope that this helps others as much as it has helped put some clarity on things for me…
Thank you for the opportunity to add to your words and all my best wishes to you and everyone else for a great Christmas and a safe and happy New Year….
Best wishes…Paul

This also addresses a big misconception people have of being able to go from $0 to $1M overnight without working at it. I know that John achieved the million dollar in sales goal over night, but he put a lot of effort prior to achieving that goal. There really is a correlation (and it surprises me that people still don’t realize this) with “time/effort” and “revenue”

December 23rd, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Great posting John and my personal thanks and I have printed out this part and hung it on my wall
“If you want to grow your business you must be taking action every single day that contributes towards your goal.
Because that’s a step you’ll never have to do again and you’ll be even closer to accomplishing your goal.”
and my vow for ‘09 is that I FOLLOW this “wall hanging”
Thanks again

I took action and came and read the whole article and now by posting a comment here.
I appreciate the concept and it drives home the teachings from my current mentor Rich Schefren. I am going to visit Rich in February and if I don’t have any accomplishments done to build my business between now and then it will be a disappointment for Rich (and me).
I need to take the incremental steps each day for me, my business and for those that believe in me.

This a good subject to end the year on. What appealed to me most was the way you presented the idea as units or blocks of time that make up the day. Now I have a visual to grab a mind-hold on. Thanks. I’ll give it a try. Let’s see, that’ll take one unit…

Very insightful and thought-provoking post, John.
Our minds are incredible and can take us to great heights. Our problem is we don’t know where we are going, because we are trying to do 8 different competing businesses at once. In the words of Jack Humphrey, we have the shiny object syndrome. Here’s a quote from Jack:
“Bounce Rate (shiny object syndrome): The number of times you try something new to make money online and establish a real business vs. the number of times you’ve stuck around long enough to do so.
Have you got the fever? Find yourself jumping around from idea to idea, opportunity to opportunity, always leaving something unfinished, incomplete or half-baked?”
I know for myself that this is what 2008 has been, a shiny object syndrome year. One big key to breaking this habit is to unsubscribe from almost every guru that keeps flooding your inbox.
This new piece of the puzzle, doing daily bite-sized incremental advances, is going to take you from being ordinary into being remarkable.
Thank you, John, for another awesome kick in the butt!

Nice John, so right on
A few more thoughts on the subject . . .
Specific action, on purpose, over and over =success
Thought about desire, over and over = thought about desire, over and over!
The specific thought is important, it’s a guidance system, but until coupled with action- it’s powerless.
Anything one pursues is a daily thing. If you don’t give it daily attention, whatever was already was there in your life will take precedence.
There are secrets about what you desire that can not be revealled until you take focused action in the direction of your specific thoughts.
Change, accomplishment and success are the result of daily thought and action. What you think and act on in each moment influences your life experience, to change it or leave it the same is a choice.
Without the thought, the action is not focused, without the action, thought never lives.?
What else comes from specific action besides reslts? Satisfaction, motivation, increased clarity, increased self concept, determinaton, enhanced belief . . . which all lead to more advanced thought and specific actions.
And, the reason we get the specific thoughts is so we will do something about fulfilling them.
John

Thank you for this John.
I got stuck the the paralysis by analysis stage for months. Even now I sometimes worry about actually starting. I thought I was moving my business forward by reading emails, google reader, doing courses to learn my new business but this is really only ‘busy work’, not ‘business work’.
Starting now, not waiting until after Christmas or January 1, I commit myself to doing at least one thing to move my business forward - write an article, do keyword research, competition research, market understanding etc.
If I’m to reach my stated goal of $10,000/month by April 30 2009 (from $150/year now) and to retire my darling husband so we can spend more time together, NOW is when I must start.
I hope you, like me, spend Christmas with those you love and I hope that 2009 exceeds all expectations for us all.
Kathy
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:04 pm
This is not new!
But when it is coming from the mouth of a respected leader it does sink, really deep.
1 year is an accumulation of 365 days, 1 day of 24hrs, 1 hr of 60 minutes, 1 min of 60 seconds. If we look at one second, it is nothing and worthless. But 1 year is simply equals to 1 x 60 x 60 x 24 x 365 seconds. Same goes to $1 million, it’s $1 x 1,000,000.
While I agree with JR about incremental progress, another point to be strict with is to keep your bearing straight. If you take incremental steps every day but all in a different directions, you will not reach your goal, at least not in a reasonable time frame.
So I remind myself to keep going and keep in the lane all the time.

Nice post John.
I’m off to get something done today…
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 pm
this post resonates with something ive been thinking.
it is something I have known all along
It came clearer into focus while I was working with Wyatt Woodsmall and Eben Pagan a few weeks ago.
learning Is behavior Change.
One of the most effective ways to guarantee successful learning,
and thus successful behavior change.
… successful action..
is by success stacking.
By building one small simple achievement upon another and another it is almost impossible to not make measurable and profound progress.
By doing nothing until it looks like you can do it all on one shot, it is almost impossible to have any success at all.
Raising kids makes this even more apparent.
I believe i can empower my kids to believe they can do anything they aspire to. But I dont expect them to be able to drive a car or compose an opera tomorrow.
I DO expect them to take a step,
maybe even several tomorrow
into new territory,
even out of their comfort zone
and grow in some way
every day.
step by step,
anything is possible
sitting and motionless,
Nothing can happen.
thanks for the diversion
back to work.
Thanks and take care

What help me with the execution is to think of something important in my life that I don’t want to regret later. For instance, make time for my children so that when my children are all grown up and I don’t have to sit down and think I wish I have done this.
Once the time is gone, we can’t get it back.
John’s article resonated many different aspects that we need to take an action and we will feel productive and successful.
We got to start somehow. How we can accurate analyzed our business if we haven’t made any process or even an effort.

Great post John. I must be a “ready” student because for the last 2 months every where I look I see emails, blog posts and books on being productive and making small improvements each day. ” when the student is ready the teacher will appear.”
I’m reading The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson and it’s along the same line as your post.
If you regularly read success books ,this is one book that will teach you how to apply the knowledge you glean from all the others. It has a simple but profound message.
We are lulled into thinking the small choices we make daily don’t matter, but over a lifetime they can work in our favor or against us. Simple choices that are easy to do and easy not to do. I suppose if we had immediate consequences we would make better choices in some areas.
Merry Christmas!

I guess there really is no such thing as tomorrow… What has helped me accomplish more is to buy a $10 Presto timer that has 4 timers within it, set each timer to 15 minutes (sometimes 30 mins) and write down what was done in each segment. The beeper comes on every 15 minutes which has opened my eyes to the fleeting character of time. Dave Lakhani wrote a book called Power of an Hour which ties in well to what’s being discussed here.

John,
Thanks for the post (and the follow on Twitter)
I call this Simple Actions and here’s a quote: “A Simple Action, Consistently done, Compounded over time, Creates a Predictable and Controllable Result” ~Ron Maurer
It’s GREAT to see so many people taking on things one ‘unit’ at a time… there are so many people out there feeling overwhelmed and exhausted! This gives them a chance to rest easier with the knowledge that they made real progress to a brighter future in any area of life they choose.
Yours,

Great post, John! And truer words were never spoken or written.
Without at least SOME amount of incremental forward progress towards your goal, in each and every day, you will NEVER achieve that goal. The “I’ll do it tomorrow” trap will make sure of that!
Sure, it’s not easy, but, then again, what in life that is truly worthwhile having is ever “easy”?? Answer: Very little, if anything at all.
A truly inspirational and thought-provoking post, especially these days!
Have a wonderful holiday season, and a fabulous New Year!
Thanks,
Ken

John you are so right - just one little step each day makes a HUGE difference in moving towards ones goals.
Also - I think it gets in to the subconscious as well, you see when one decides to procrastinate and wait for ‘tomorrow’ - imagine the havoc it does to the subconscious mind and the goals ‘it thought’ you wanted!
December 24th, 2008 at 1:13 am
John,
You have found a very nice way of restating old adages, such as, “Never put off to tomorrow what you can do today”, or, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
Remember the story about a group that crashed somewhere, 1000’s of miles from civilization, and one man escaped by walking to find help for the others. He walked through jungle, desert, snow, whatever it was, and when he was finally rescued, they asked him” “My god, man, how did you do it, how did you walk 600 impossible miles and survive what you did?” His answer: “I didn’t walk 600 miles. I walked ONE mile 600 times.” True story.
Isn’t it interesting how the simplest of concepts has to be constantly reinforced to motivate those who get “Stuck”?
To add to your post, if anyone is interested, and you allow, I used to give a presentation as a guest speaker, where attendees may have paid up to $5,000 for these conferences, called “Stuck-Unstuck”, very much on point with your keen post. Go to the URL link here to get it F.REE.
All the best in 2009…

Yes, John what you say is true, BUT……
with all due respect, one of the problems w/ internet marketing is that there are way too many distractions coming from the “gurus” themselves, j-ving with each other pitching each other’s products/ launches to their list which most intermediate internet marketers like myself are a member of. So what happens is, I get started on, let’s say a Jeff Johnson wordpress project, then I get hit with Arbitrage Conspiracy… and you guys are SO GOOD at copywriting that I just HAVE to buy that new product
and I’m back at square one, until the next great program comes around. It’s like an addiction. But now, i’m limiting myself to just five gurus and shutting out the rest. you are my SEO guru (i’ll ignore all other SEO type programs), and i’ve got others for blogging, affiliate marketing, and PPC arbitrage. IM can really put you into an unending circle of “doing nothing” if you aren’t careful!

Yes, definitely a misleading title… And I was a little disappointed to have been misled by you (of all people).
You could have the same impression with your article and its content (which by the way, although useful, it’s hardly news) with a more honest title.
I read you, and I’ll continue to do, but please save us the hype. God knows there are plenty of “marketers” out there doing it… you don’t need to be included with them!

When I’ve got to do something that I don’t want to do I always try to remind myself that ‘if you do nothing, nothing will happen’.
And it really helps to have a plan. Break down a big task into half-hour units and do at least one of these units a day, without fail, and the task starts getting smaller. And I love the psychological satisfaction of ticking off units at the end of the day.
Thanks,
Sarah

Hey John,
You are so right about the incremental success and how it will become a self-fulling mechanism.
Interestingly, this is not a new idea but one that needs to be repeated again and again because the majority of people allow fear of the immensity of it all to prevent them from taking action.

Hi John
I agree 100% - I can really relate to this. I work a lot on my business. I always try to do something everyday no matter how small or insignificant it may seem at the time. As long as I’m moving forward I’m happy with that because I know that I am slowing but surely moving towards my goal. I feel a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the working day and I give myself an imaginary little pat on the back which encourages me to keep on going.
I also like the following quote from ‘Mark Victor Hansen’ - I keep it on my notice board and read it everyday.
“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So What? Get started now! With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful”

Another vintage post on an extremely effective habit that is always neglected.
This concept of incremental success goes well with the principle of the “Power of Compounding”. It is the daily small effort that add up to eventually create a snowball effect. We should always keep our sight on the day when the breakaway success comes!
Cheers!
Merry Christmas to you and all!

I am thinking of giving up internet marketing and switching to stock investment at the bottom of the market. Buy low now to sell high later.
Internet marketing with all these young guys making astronomical amounts with PPC marketing seems to be the next bubble about to burst maybe?
I sold my house a few years ago to bank those profits after buying in at the bottom of the last housing slump. Now thinking to buy undervalued stocks in the European markets.
December 24th, 2008 at 6:58 am
Your words are like a smack in the face. I have an incredible unique idea for a product and have been thinking about it for months. I created a buisness model, collected quotes from vendors, looked into affiliates - and still have no product to sell. I finally started creating it a few weeks back and have put it off for some time now. “I’ll start again tomorrow”, “this weekend, I’ll put in a few hours”, I have said them all.
What you say in this post is so painfully obvious that it fell on me like a ton of bricks.
I have been reading about your success and others for a long time now and always wonder “when is it gonna be my turn to shine”. I think I just realized that with just a little effort each day, time will pass and progress will be made.
Thanks for inspiring me to kick 2009’s ass.

Excellent post, John.
The problem with procrastination is that when someone procrastinates, he loses his drive and eventually that item, hot as it may be, falls off the to-do list. It’s sad to see many people cry over their lot in life when, in some cases, they are directly responsible for it.
I will bookmark this page and reread in the coming days.
Thanks for an awesome and a perfectly timed post!

You make it sound so easy and it should be, however I struggle with this often. One must make this a habit. Hey John,
Great post. It is incredibly important to remember this concept whenever you start to feel overwhelmed. One small step accomplished gives the feeling of effectiveness that we all need to continue. Progress causes momentum, and then inertia will be working for you instead of against you.
It’s also important to remember that small things (eating a candy bar) done everyday can lead to being very effective at achieving a goal that you DON’T want.
Thanks for reminding me of one of the very important concepts of successful living.

That truly is the number one key to success is “Mastery over procrastination”. We get over-whelmed by the pressures in life and lose focus and get pre-occupied with something else that we leave half done as well. Focus on one thing and one thing alone till it’s done. So easily said but……not easily mastered

Hi John,
I know right where you are coming from. I fight with this myself every day. It seems easy to say but hard to do. Every thing that I work on takes more time than you would have ever guessed it would. It seems to be an on going battle of the mind verses the internet world.
Anyway Happy Holidays, Ken
December 24th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
John, it couldn’t be any closer from the truth that when starting something new, it’s imperative to take baby steps or slower if desiring any continuity. Wendy Hart, a scientist for the brain & creator of “Procrastination Cure,” said it best when acknowledge that part of our brain that usually makes the decision can only see things as good or bad. Anything new seems like a lion coming to eat us, so that part of the brain will always block it, thinking that it’s protecting us. To get result, we need to trick that part of the brain by going so micro that the brain wouldn’t notice. Sort of creating a stealth system, going under the radar.

Hi John,
Never a truer word said. I have for years been one of those that say I’ll do it tomorrow . I have bought loads of products ,taken courses and dropped out half way through, spent a small fortune and achieved nothing at all. Not any longer I joined aAex Jeffrey’s new training course and I do something small everyday. I have a website http://www.desthomas.com and did have a blog untill i had some problems with it and lost all of it. So now I am starting the blog again at http://www.des-thomas.com . So take note everybody who is undecided how or what you can do on-line start small but “Do Something” even if it is only a small step. Those small steps will soon become giant steps and you will be on the road to success before you know it.

This was a great blog post that could make everlasting changes in peoples lives. Some people hear that and say wow there goes that cliche again but it’s true. If you would relinquish that one seed of doubt and just do what John says here you will see major growth.
Sometimes we think too much when we need to just implement. Isn’t it funny that it seems as if all of the so called “gurus” sound as if they are all saying the same thing. That’s because in mot cases they are. They are giving away the keys to success on a daily basis and that ’s why they all sound the same.
The keys to success are simple and true they haven’t changed for John Reese, Mike Filsaime, Jeff Walker or Frank Kern and they won’t change for you. Follow the keys to success and you will inevitably be successfull! Thanks John Reese and thanks for following me!

Thanks for sharing this useful message, John.
Here’s my 2 cents. Deal with things in a more systematic, objective way: through prioritization and organization.
Rank your tasks from the most important and urgent to the least, and tick them off as they are done. Stick to the goal of finishing the list. And don’t make room for excuses. Just go and do it.

Excellent point to your article which everyone should take on board.
For me, I found it unfortunate that you couldn’t find a better example to quote from. I normally find Hugh Grant’s films entertaining but didn’t enjoy “About a Boy”. I only watched it once, a few years ago so I apologize if the following is not 100% accurate but I recall that Grant’s character, Will, was a prime example of how to waste a life, living off the royalties from a Christmas song written many years previously (by his father?). He may have had a good understanding of time that we can all learn from, just a shame that he didn’t put it to better use himself.
December 26th, 2008 at 6:02 am
Great post John, and more important, great timing. This is “THE” issue for me. I have my own theory about it. I believe people don’t start things off because we tend to do things we LIKE first and not the things we HAVE to do, even though they’re important to us.
My believe is that the approach HAS to be totally opposite. In order to achieve anything important, we MUST do the things we HAVE to do in order to do the things we LIKE to do. I call it the Delay of Gratification technique. DUTY BEFORE GOODY for short.
December 26th, 2008 at 7:10 am
I wish you would post more often as each post is always worth the time needed to read and relish.
It’s so critical to do “something” everyday toward reaching your goal. One additional critical aspect is to have that goal clearly established. Write it down. Give it a target date for completion. Break the overall goal down into incremental steps. Check off each as you accomplish it. The feeling of accomplishment spurs you on to the next step.
Everyone needs a “To Do” list and a “Not To Do” list. I explain more about this concept in an article I published at EzineArticles titled Get It Done.

Your post was very encouraging to me. I do take action every single day and wish I had more time to take more action! But slowly, but surely I know I am making progress. In fact, I’m making a little money each week now - something I couldn’t say a couple of months ago. You might wonder why I don’t take more action if that’s what I want to do - I happen to be a grandmother who babysits almost every day for anywhere from 6 to 12 hours a day. Keeps me young!
December 26th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
If I could! I’d brain transplant this to every person on the earth… Probably the most important lesson life, PERIOD.
Thanks for doing such a great job at teaching it John. For me personally it has been the SINGLE best catalyst towards IMMENSE quantum leap jumps in progress…
Yes, its ironic, the FASTEST way to get there, is to slow down, and go for small, consistent, chunks, one at a time.
Wanting to get there FAST, makes you spend months preparing for the 2-day jump, when if you had just walked in those months, you’d have gotten there anyway.
December 27th, 2008 at 1:20 am
…surprised you didn’t mention the ‘tipping point’ effect?!? If your goal takes, say, 48 blocks, then the first twelve will be creating the habit, the next twelve will be cementing it, and something strange happens around point 36-42, (just after the point where a lot of people give up from boredom or frustration) when the graph starts looking exponential and takes a momentum of it’s own that climbs straight to the stratosphere…
I’ve had this happen a couple of times, in different areas of my life. I reckon THAT’S the real exciting bit of ‘incremental progress’ - it eventually stops being incremental and transforms into something exponential that leaves you wondering how it happned!

Hi John,
Excellent advice my friend. Actually, that’s the single biggest problem I’ve had…
“Tommorow, Tommorow, Tommorow”…your way of expressing and getting things clear on paper are superb. I’ve taken quite vacations in the last months and I still got by everything nicely. But that was the problem, getting by and the choosing of tommorow, tommorow, tommorow.
Anyone who has challenging situations like this should consider reading and applying books like “The Now Habit” by Neil Fiore and especially, “The practicing mind” by Thomas. They all say the same things you said here for free, however, expand a little more too for a great understanding of the cause and how to cure the cause.
Let’s see the results now and in 09…great job in 09 Reese…thanks for the great reads.
A Friend.

Hey Johno, we have very aligned thoughts and concepts. I hope to have the pleasure to sit and chat one day.
Thank you for the post. One thing I would like to add is that we can not be too hard on ourselves if we do not get to achieve that one simple step for the day. There is plenty to do and small incremental steps will get you there but sometimes we find ourselves having to tend to other unplanned tasks.
These unplanned tasks are just as important as they can be another step to success. We must be flexible and understand everything we do we do for a reason even if it looks like its unrelated to our main goal, its really not.
Prioritizing is key for me. It helps me feel more accomplished once the more important objectives are accomplished, then I can keep moving. Get that one thing done that is preventing you from moving forward, no matter what it is, just do it and forget it.

Great post, John. Consistent action is absolutely where it’s at! It accumulates and adds-up fast. As I look back over the past 2 years, I can see a trail of daily action that has been directly responsible for my substantial business and income growth. I also began to outsource more to Odesk to basically quadruple my efforts in the same amount of time. Thanks for the continued insight

[…] You do something on a daily basis to get closer to your goals. John Reese of the famed Income.com blog recently posted an article “How to get everything you want in 24 hours” […]

Hi John,
I do follow you on Twitter . .. think that’s how I got here.
I’m taking this paragraph “If you want to grow your business you must be taking action every single day that contributes towards your goal. This doesn’t mean checking your email more, or looking at stats more, or “doing research” (i.e. surfing sites all day) it means putting in the work towards creating that product, or doing some writing for an article or blog post, or making a video you’ve been wanting to make, or setting up a site and testing some Adwords, etc. etc.”
and connecting it with Andrew Fox’s 5 Golden Rules (http://www.followthefoxy.com) and posting them on my bulletin board above my desk.
Great article and ideas to keep in mind as I plan out my 2009 list of scheduled successes.
All the best,
Theresa

You have hit the nail on the head John!
How we view and value time plays a great deal in life itself. If you do not give much thought to work and priorities, you end up earning a few pennies for yourself. But if you are focused, results-oriented, and values time, there’s no other way but - UP!
January 2nd, 2009 at 11:06 am
This advice is much the same as:
How do you eat an Elephant ?
One bite at the time, and it’s true, many tasks seem impossible, but break them down into little pieces, to be tackled by the day or hour, and soon you will see results appear from no where, and that will be a great reward for your efforts.
I spent about two weeks setting up and working on my first blog, not even always sure of how to do things, but i was determined to work hard, and it’s producing results for me, that i never expected.

Hey John,
Very well said…
Everyone with goals must set a schedule of tasks daily and live by them.
Keep up the good work my friend.

Fantastic, John…I’ve printed this out and put it up on the wall of my office as a constant reminder.
Reminds me of Jim Rohn’s great quote: “The key to success, in any endevour, is very simple. Simple Disciplines Repeated Over Time”.
Your post is a great expansion on Mr. Rohn’s principle.
Best to you,
Scott

This article is extraordinary.
It is the missing piece from the Japanese Kaizen philosophy (continuous improvement) and Tony Robbins’ concept of starting on your goals immediately when you set them.
The middle part, of course, is as you put it, to keep at it (continuous improvement towards goals) every 24 hours, day in day out, for every goal every day.
Not every two days or once in a while, but every day, even if, and often especially if, you don’t like it.
This is one of those rare articles that truly has the power for profound change, and I thank you John for that.

I’ve been following John’s work for several years and he never fails to throw you “Golden Nuggets” of immense value. The key here is to stop doing what’s not adding a step forward toward your goal and focus on what is.
I had to laugh about the e-mail and research parts of his message because he must have been looking over my shoulder just then. I’ve read over and over about the benefit of “writing down your goals”. Yes, picking up that long, thin, pointed foreign object (I know… It sounds bizarre) and actually putting it on paper then posting it where you can see it all the time. Then do something every day that gets you one step closer to that goal.
Great post John. I’ll reTweet it.

Hello! I just stumbled in, while looking for traffic generation tips that I haven’t seen before. I’ll be looking through your articles in depth. Meanwhile, just thought I’d introduce myself here. I’m in Seattle, doing music, photography, and other freelance pursuits. Plus, I’m still trying to make money online, even in the apparently “tough economy”…

actually if you walk 3.5 miles in one day you will probably get a much better result than if you walk .5 miles a day 7 times.
From a realistic point of view

An easy tool to visually see how many hours you spend doing stuff in a day is on the website http://www.numbercrunched.com. Can adjust your hours spent on hobbies, work etc to see what percentage of the day this takes and then also calculate how many hours a year you’d spend on those things.

Most people don’t understand the power of constant, daily effort. The reason is probably because most people want instant results. Telling someone that it will take a concerted effort over the years to make money will make a really crappy sales letter for a product even if it is true. I tell my readers the truth, doesn’t matter if I’m popular or not. I make a good living online, and it did not come to me overnight.

Hey John !
Great post … NO, Excellent post brother !!!
It is this very mindset that has actually enabled me to start making money online, that and an amazing mentor
It seems a shame to me no matter how many times most people read this sort of stuff from someone in a position as yourself that they dont actually put it into practice !!
I have only been making real money online with my blog for about 3 months but I remember for the last couple of years watching ‘big players’ on videos telling you that you MUST have a plan, then you got to plan steps to achieve the plan. Looking back I could be whare I am now over a year ago if I took action and realised the impostance of this sort of info in your post !!
I hope many others actually take notice and realise that what you are saying here is exactly how to build a business online that will generate the income that they seek !!
Thanks for this John

Right on. Success happens daily or not at all. It’s easy to push your success out into the distant future. It’s the old school approach of building wealth slowly. Screw that!
February 15th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
John,
I’ve known this to be true for a long time and thanks for the reminder. I first learned it as “devote more time each day to income producing activity”.
It’s easy to get caught up aimlessly searching, purposefully researching, and checking emails or other distractions which are easy because they’re safe. There’s no accountability.
Releasing a new product or article could be ridiculed and get negative comments. You just have to get over that and put it out there. The only mistake is being too afraid to make a mistake.

“Do you know why the kiss of death in trying to accomplish anything in life is the old mantra of I’ll start on it tomorrow?”

Thanks for posting.

John, what a remarkable post! This is something that everyone with a market reach should communicate with their followers repeatedly and remind them about the fundamentals of building ANY business – including living a LIFE. “It is not enough to be busy, so are the ants.
