UPDATE at Friday, October 5th. 9:12AM EST. We are rolling out piece-by-piece of the NEW Beta V2.0. It’s going to take a few more days until the completely new network is online. Thanks for your patience. Thank you. STATS ARE BACK UP! We’ve enabled some temporary account summary statistics that appear at the top of your Dashboard. This was a “quick fix” for now as we are preparing to roll-out BlogRush Beta v2.0 and an entirely new Dashboard and network by the end of the week. (Thanks for your patience!) All BlogRush “Dashboard” statistics modules are currently offline for all users. We had to take them down temporarily as we are rolling out a “system-wide” upgrade to the Dashboard (it will have more charts, graphs, and data reported). And we’re also in the process of rolling out “Phase 1″ of some of our major changes — like moving to the 100% Manual Review process which is going to greatly improve the QUALITY of blogs in our network which will also raise the click-rates for everyone. (i.e. more traffic!) We’re also applying the first wave of our new security measures. So we’re doing some massive upgrades to the system and we’re dealing with a lot of data — so this isn’t some simple “upgrade.” Please rest assured that everything else is functioning normally — referral activity, syndication credits, syndication impressions/clicks, etc. We hope to have the new Dashboard up and running as soon as possible. Right now we estimate it will possibly take until the end of the weekend. I’ll post more news as soon as it becomes available. For now, ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND! |

Ahhh I don’t know if I can hold out until the end of the weekend, but I guess I have to! Although I’m unable to view my Dashboard stats, I’ve noticed that BlogRush is responsible for 75% of my Blog impressions so a big THANK YOU to you John and all your hard working employees over at BlogRush.

I just created a WordPress plugin that allows you to change the style of the BlogRush widget. This addresses some of the complaints people have about the current size being too large, or the style not fitting in with their blog theme.

I know that this is not a long term solution John. But I hope this can take some of the pressure off you in terms of UI development. It’s hard to please everyone.

Hey NICK DALTON — please, please, please take that down. We sincerely appreciate you putting in the effort but that’s in violation of our TOS. We don’t want people manipulating the widget or our code. We’re working on solutions for people wanting a more narrow design and other options, but people only need to be using what we officially release. People using “non-standard” widgets right now disrupts the entire FAIRNESS of how the service works. i.e. it’s completely unfair for someone to be showing a minimized version of the widget compared to someone showing one that gets more attention (and more clicks). I know you were just trying to help and I “thank you” for it! But it will cause problems with our service and we don’t want to have to start terminating people’s BlogRush accounts for using that modification. I hope you understand.

most developers will sit back after one upgrade and do nothing, but you are a pure clean cut example that that doesnt work. You must change and test thing, and as you know, that is the reason this will not only be successful in the short term but the long term as well.

John,
I am pretty surprised that it seems your team didn’t think about the potential for spamming of your service and just how much it could impact on the first few weeks of your launch. ‘Massive Upgrades’ just a few weeks in? Yikes. Manually reviewing every blog? double yikes! I guess shifting from making money selling internet marketing products to building a network around web apps isnt as easy as it seems!
This beta launch needs a ‘forum’ in the user area as well as as your FAQs. It will also help you develop the product through user generated ideas.
Good luck with your tech issues - I really hope you don’t burn through all those trafficsecrets dollars too soon!

John I’m sorry but your customer support is terrible. I was really excited when you announced BlogRush, it’s such a creative way to motivate bloggers to put more effort in for free traffic. There isn’t really a downside to the concept.
But I cannot log in for some reason, yes I have cookies enabled and yes my password is 100% correct, but I try to log in and it doesn’t respond.
I contacted the BlogRush customer support and it took about… 5 days to get a response. Which is pretty bad in itself, 5 days. But I wouldn’t of complained had they gave me a solution or something at least to explain it. But basically and I’m not quoting just paraphrasing they said that they had more important issues. And the excuse was that BlogRush is still very new etc etc
Well I’m sorry John but to me it looks like it’s still very underdeveloped and nowhere near ready hence all the constant hold ups and errors. Why put it out if it’s not ready.

Nick — we’re in the process of doing a total overhaul of the entire network. All these problems will be solved in the upcoming week. If that’s not good enough for anyone then they can stop using the service. After all, it’s free and we are simply doing the best we can. That’s all we can do. Our entire team is working 20+ hours a day to fix some major issues that were unexpected. We are truly doing the best we can.

I’m not having ago at the service for the sake of it, just my opinion.
But anyway, John your videos are amazing. You’re a great speaker on marketing and online business. Your up there with Seth Godin for me now, he’s also an awesome speaker with valid points and observations.
I contacted income.com but still haven’t had a response. It was just a request for an interview, would that be a possibility? just an email to email interview for my internet marketing blog. It’s still reletively new, so far I’ve interviewed Jeremy Shoemaker aka Shoemoney, so you would be a great addition.

Semmy — it appears that we’re having a problem with the filters when it applies to bonus credits. Normal credits get filtered okay. We’re working on this issue.

We also need a way to delete a blog from our dashboard.
I had signed up for blogrush for my blog and then moved to a diff server.
There is no option to delete the first, unused blog.

Dear John….
The honeymoon’s over.
But it’s not too late yet. You can still do the following.
1) Announce that Beta Stage 1 is over.
2) Take BlogRush down. You read that right. Take it completely OFF the web. Disable the whole thing. It was free, so no one is going to lose any payment.
3) Bring in a few top-notch programmers/software engineers. You don’t need to fire anyone. Your existing team can be the support to the t-n programmers. Better to pay for these t-n guys than paying for dozens of admin staff to audit and monitor millions of BR accounts.
4) Create a new system addressing and fixing as many as possible of the issues that cropped up. Personally, I think you also need to relook that credit system and the 10 layers of credits or whatever. The mechanics of this part completely escapes me. And it would make things a lot easier for everyone if you cut this down to a simple straightforward credit system or do away with it altogether.
5) Announce Beta Stage 2. Allow ONLY your mailing list or invitees to participate. It HAS to be a closed group testing the revamped system.
6) Ensure you set up a system to get feedback from your beta testers. Their feedback will be invaluable.
7) Iron out ALL the kinks. Test it like hell. Tweak it to death until it’s perfect. Yes, perfect! This stage should best be about 3 months. It takes time to know how people will use and abuse a system. However, this is a rather simple sytem. You should be able to spot all the bugs within a month. Moreover, you don’t have the luxury of time right now.
9) Draw up a rock-solid TOS. And very clear rules and guidelines on use of the system. Make it a requirement that users give comprehensive personal and account data at registration.
10) Announce an end to Beta Stage 2.
11) Announce the new improved BlogRush to the public. With your reputation, the bloggers will come back in droves.
12) If I were you, I would charge a fee to join the system. Or even a recurring membership fee. If you want to compensate your beta testers, you could allow them to join the system for free or for a much lower fee.

LPF - we’re doing 98% of all of those things now. But taking BlogRush down doesn’t make any sense. It WORKS and it’s only going to work better. Many of our users are already receiving new readers from it and they will continue to receive more and more each day as all the improvements are rolled out in the next week. Our early adopters will be rewarded for their patience and for giving us a try this early.

I’m really excited to see all these people talk about a big increase in traffic. I signed up based on the strength of a mutual colleague’s recommendation, saying that they had seen a lot of traffic.
Before the dashboard went down, I saw that I had accrued 10s of thousands of credits…
..but I have never seen *one* click, and I have no perceptible increase in traffic.
I’ve seen our site link in the widget (I took note of someone’s site showing up in our widget, then manually went to their site to see what I could see)… but no clicks.
I know you’re super busy, but is there someone there who can help me figure this out? I’ve been hanging in since signing up many days ago, but our site real estate is valuable…

Dave — you’re 100% CORRECT! There has been quite a bit of criticism from some bloggers, but you know what? We have received *A TON* of fantastic emails from BlogRush members telling us how they’re adding new blog readers everyday because of BlogRush and that they’re also discovering great new blogs in their niche just because of the widget. People also underestimate the “trickle effect” for traffic that can result from using BlogRush — like another member seeing someone’s post, linking to it, and not only sending a bunch of new traffic but also helping with their search engine rankings; and then those things help MORE bloggers in that niche discover that blog which can result in MORE links and mentions which results in more readers, higher SEO rankings, and even MORE traffic. It’s like a great compounding snowball effect. Yet some people are whining and complaining that their CTRs are low and not realizing there’s more to it all than that. BUT… the CTRs *are* a bit low and we are putting in TONS of new things this week to really raise them across the network (and for good!)
We’re only just getting started. BlogRush will be an extremely VALUABLE service in the very near future and beyond. Thanks again!

I don’t get people who say “put an end to BlogRush” or “BlogRush is a huge failure”. The implementaiton of it is only two weeks old! Any innovative product, and yes I used the word innovative, is going to have kinks and bugs that need to be tweeked. This is something that never has been done before and it already is showing major success throughout the blog circuit. Do you think the creators of the first blog didn’t have errors? Of course they did, but now look at blogs today. If inventors and creators terminated a product in its beginning stages just because it had some errors we wouldn’t have 90% of the products that exist today.
Keep up the excellent work John. I am eager to see where BlogRush goes as well as the rest of Income.com.

Gotta say, I’m with David (above) on this… don’t understand how anyone could expect / demand perfection from a complicated system when first rolled out. And it makes no sense to say, “test it all first” because once you introduce the human component, there are infinite variables!
Yes, I get frustrated when spam blogs headlines show up on my site’s BR widget… but I’ve come to the conclusion that this is a great deal more useful than many of the social widgets and buttons we see.
In fact, I’ve found some great new blogs through BlogRush, and am starting to feature some of them in my own posts — no doubt other bloggers have the same experience.
So, there’s another unlooked-for bonus of the service.
And if nothing else, it’s interesting to see where this goes!!

I have seen traffic arrive from the East and West coasts of USA, from Europe and from Asia.
I think that is Fantastic.
Great about the new colours.
I saw that Ed Dale have the same problem with abusers on The Thirty Day Challenge this past August.
I think that whenever one gives away something for free, one always has to keep a sharp eye out.
We travel to Morocco by car once or twice a year and always take sacks of stuff to give away in the remote mountain villages.
Sometimes it turns into a bit of a fight because one guy tries to take the lot, or all the best things.
I am glad that you are overcoming all your teething troubles and I am surprised how some people moan that something that they are getting for free is not perfect from the first day.
Well, maybe I am not surprised.

I don’t know who this LPF person is…But I work hard producing quality content on my blogs, and I was very excited for the opportunity to increase my viability with BlogRush. If BlogRush was turned into a fee based service, I would not be able to afford it, and I would be very disappointed.
I understand that there needs to be changes made at this early stage, and I am willing to wait as long as it takes…But I hope I am not being strung along only to be told I need to pay for the service…I don’t want a free couple of months and then have to pay…If that is what this is going to be, please make it known now. Thank you.

Just read my way through all this lot and couldn’t help feeling that there’s a lot of criticism for a FREE service that is still trying to find its feet? Not sure I understand all the ‘nitty gritty’ stuff but I am willing to give it a chance - traffic has definitely increased and the widget doesn’t take up that much ‘valuable’ space!

Great product and glad you’re at work creating all the negative aspects. Glad you have listened, but a bit sad that all of this has happened at a time when many of us made actual launches looking forward to testing the validity of the BlogRush system. Also, many of us have passed on others to your sites, and now one can only wonder whether these signups/leads are actually registered.
But good luck on getting everything ready. It’s much appreciated so we can all begin using this more effectively.

Like Henrik put it, we do want to see benefits for ourselves once we start promoting.
Fact is if the system will not benefit others it will fall on its face sooner rather then later.
The way it looks if all registration is done with 0 .01% error then we are all happy

I have no idea how on earth do you say it’s a great product when it went down just shortly after launch and we’re all been waiting for nearly a week for it to be up again.
There’s barely enough time to judge it, for me I’m only waiting for it to find out the potential of BlogRush.
I had a few click and referrals and it’s pretty exciting but my excitement was somewhat doused by the upgrade exercise.
What I’m most curious about (As a developer myself) is that why can’t BlogRush upgrade / fix be done on a seperate server and all, then once ready just have a

Guys, seriously, even though you are promising some interesting features - including new charts and reports, you should at least keep a minimum of reporting available - how many impressions I am getting, how many impressions I am giving to the network.
If feels bad not knowing these basic numbers. I am tempted to remove the code from my blog.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to use your FREE SERVICE.
I already have the widget planted on one of my Wordpress Blogs (although a little large).
After reading through these comments, I truly cannot understand why some people have to whinge and moan. If they don’t like it, don’t use it. If they are using it and don’t like it, take it off. After all, it is FREE and it’s not as if they have “broken the bank” getting it.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day” springs to mind. For sure, there are going to be niggly bits and pieces during the systems infancy. There is with everything concerning the internet. With the exception of Bill Gates, of course. Microsoft has run perfectly since it first began…
I shall stick it out and see where it goes because, I too, am quite excited about BLOGRUSH. If it works, great, if not, I haven’t lost anything.

Will you be adding more categories? I’m finding that they are too broad and conseqently displaying links that are unrelated. It would be nice to have more specific categories and then if nothing specific is available you could drop back a level and display listings that were more general.
I currently have my fly fishing site under Sports but I noticed a gambling site listed - not what I expected. Hopefull this is something you are addressing in the manual review.

KOEN - Reports will be available with the new Dashboard roll-out coming by the end of the week.
DANNY - We hope to add some temporary stats reporting to the top of the current Dashboard for the time being so people can at least see some of their account activity.

@Mark Knowles. I honeslty dont’ think anybody cares if you read John Reese’s blog or not. Us admirers aren’t fake. Most of us have used John Reese’s advice to help enhance our business and we are grateful for the information he provides us. He gives us a lot of useful information for FREE that can help greatly increase the profability of your business. Why wouldn’t we show our gratitude for this? We use the word FREE for BlogRush also because it is a great product that would have been successful if he charged a set up or monthly fee, but he offered it to us for FREE instead. The ratio of people who admire John Reese to people who think he is overrated is about 100:1 so he obviously is doing something right.

I have ALREADY increased my traffic in just a short amount of time even with the glitches. It’s FREE, people - FREE!!! What can you get for free these days that actually is worth something especially on the internet? These guys are putting in a lot of time, sweat, and money, I imagine, to help the new blogger get their message out to the masses. I am hanging in there as long as it takes - until THE FAT LADY SINGS!

A quick question - I was just looking at my website, when I noticed my own post appear in the Blogrush widget! Is this supposed to happen? Or should I have put my own url in the filter so I don’t lose out on any potential clicks? It happened twice as it was still there when I refreshed. Would this be one of the bug thingys?!

I must say that the way you guys execute the upgrade is ridiculous, it’s been what - 2 weeks now?
Why can’t you guys do all you need on the upgrade, then do some test run, then have a 12 - 24 hour downtime to execute upgrade. That would greatly enhance user experience.
So now it looks like a 2-week upgrade exercise. And what about TESTS? Should we be expecting more hiccups and further down-time?

A few questions though… I have seen some of the same posts showing on my widget for a week now… How are they chosen to appear? The post show, are gone and then show again a day later. I know that there are more blogs signed up than those…
Also, I never see my site on a widget when visiting others sites…

Just wanted to broach a topic worth reviewing.
My blog falls in the business/finance category, and many links that appear on my widget are to websites that are promoting some type of product or service.
For example, a link: “How to consolidate your debt” or “lower your mortgage payment” or “Get out of debt” etc. and the articles are predominately advertisements, similar to the types of solicitations you find in your spam box.
I am not sure what the Blog Rush policy is on this, but I think it takes away from the blogs that are commentary and analysis and not purely advertisement vehicles. I think it disparages Blog Rush’s image to have advertisements in the widget as opposed to real content.
I am all for advertising; I prefer it be limited to the individual blog, not placed in the widget.

As someone who commissions software, I know how difficult it can be to “get it right first time”. It just ain’t possible! I can’t imagine my coding team tackling anything as complex as BlogRush - and they’re good coders. You must have some real geniuses working for you
If BlogRush was actually harming the blogs on which it was installed, then yes, the system should be taken down until it’s fixed.
But that’s not so. There might be problems with filtering and problems with the stats, but these are minor compared with the real traffic advantages which many of us BlogRushers are enjoying.
I was genuinely impressed with the results in the first week of installing it.
So, those folk who are not happy with BlogRush as it stands at present, I echo your sentiments, John - take it off your blogs, wait a month or two and then come back and see how it’s improved.
In the meantime, the rest of us will simply enjoy the pleasure of seeing traffic to our blogs growing and growing.
I hope you’re giving your team - and yourself - time off this weekend. That way, you’ll return fresh on Monday to start driving the BlogRush Beast closer and closer to the impossible goal.. perfection!

week ago; however, it still states they are “PENDING.” I have
a big empty space where I put in the title “BLOG RUSH,” but

@Karla ~ Looking Towards Heaven: Getting referrals will depend on the type of traffic. If you’re running a recipe site your visitors probably don’t have blogs, so they won’t click and sign up. My blog is aimed at people likely to have their own blog, and I posted a few articles about BlogRush which resulted in some signups

Clearly, he’s right. How ridiculous that you can’t fix all these problems in 3 hours and test in isolation. It’s not like you’re doing something new here, is it? Why don’t you just use some open source code and fix it immediately? I’m sure one of the many critics on here will give you suitable code, because they’ve all created major web apps that ran faultlessly and pleased everyone.
In fact, if they’ll provide the link I’ll sign up to their superior services.
Honestly, what is wrong with people? Don’t like BlogRush? Here’s an idea - don’t use it! Want extra facilities? Here’s an idea - make a polite suggestion.
Want huge amounts of traffic for nothing so you can make money without lifting a finger? Here’s an idea - try working instead.
Despite the odd glitches this system has I’m pleased to use it on my blogs. I’m adding content to a few new blogs I have to make them suitable to put the widget on. At the very least it will give my readers some interesting possibilities to consider and that has to be a good thing.
I’m surprised all the critics have time to spend posting negative comments. They should be too busy counting their money from their ultra successful sites.

Thought-provoking debate. Let me put something out there for all to consider (and for what its worth). ‘Opposition’ is a part of the game; be it in politics, sports, business, what have you. No interest, no debate — No debate, no dialogue. From what I gather, the conversation is leading to something of greater value — A better BlogRush product. For the opposition’s case to hols water, they really need to prove otherwise and not just in theory but in practice. If they can produce a free product, in less time, and running at peak performance, kudos to them.

Yeah, it’s free… But so are a lot of other things on the net. And they work.
Google is free.
Wordpress is free.
Firefox is free.
The list goes on and on. I know these guys have a good track record, but this is getting ridiculous.
Seems like someone jumped the gun long before the product was ready. This thing had huge momentum, now I see blog post after post lamenting it. The damage to its reputation grows deeper with each passing day.

It’s my blog, I’ll put it wherever I want to. Start telling us where we HAVE to put something and people will drop this thing far faster than they picked it up.
Maybe if I could customize the size and the color so the widget would match my blog better, I’d be more inclined to put it where people can see it. As it is now, it’s an eyesore.
