I’m Looking For Some Help… | |||

UPDATE: 9:30PM EST, Saturday, Feb. 15th: Thank you to everyone that offered to help out with this! We’ve selected some people from the comments and we’re going to see how they work out. If we still need additional tutorials made we will be contacting more people. THANK YOU! Unfortunately, we had a slight mishap with one of our team members that was supposed to be creating “How To” tutorials to show people how to add BlogRush to different types of blog platforms… WordPress, Blogger, Movable Type, TypePad, etc. It was pretty much just a misunderstanding as this person didn’t understand the blogging stuff as we original thought — no biggie, it happens. SOOOO… I’m looking for someone that wants to make some extra cash. I will reward you handsomely. Here’s what I need: - I need someone to make some short, but thorough and truly step-by-step Camtasia videos showing how to successfully add the BlogRush widget to several different types of blogs… Wordpress, MT, Blogger, etc. etc. The more you can demonstrate, the better. And/or (if Camtasia isn’t possible) to show step-by-step breakdown (showing little screenshots of each step) of how to add the code successfully to many types of blogs. I’m looking for someone that is a good teacher and will make it simple and easy for anyone to understand how to sign up for an account and then to get the code to load on their blog. * We have a lot of newbie users that really need the step-by-step hand-holding. Unfortunately, we were supposed to have all of this for our launch but our team member ran into some personal issues. SO… if you are interested in helping me out and doing this work, please post in the comments below and use your real email address. Please explain in detail what you can do (i.e. how many blog types you can demonstrate, etc.) and how you would do it… Camtasia videos for each, just a written tutorial with screenshots or (ideally) BOTH. If you can express your “qualifications” or at least WHY you think you could do a good job, that would help — i.e. you’ve used a lot of the different blog platforms, or you’re just a whiz with that stuff anyway, etc. etc. Also, any tutorials to help people create RSS feeds if they don’t have one. And/or how to setup an RSS feed on a blog platform that provides it, if they didn’t set one up yet. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS! You’d really be helping us out. Thank You! ~John |

hmm I may be able to help. I was thinking about doing some videos about blogrush anyway. How soon do you need this? I love to teach, know camtasia inside out and I’ve worked with all the major blogging platforms WordPress, Blogger, Movable Type, but not TypePad.
September 15th, 2007 at 4:07 am
maybe you could at least give a brief instruction how to add it to wordpress? Thanks.
September 15th, 2007 at 4:15 am
@Shavkat if you want to add it to wordpress you must login then go to Presentation/Widgets(you MUST have the widgets plugin installed - get it here: http://automattic.com/code/widgets)
Then scroll down a little and add a “Text Widget” if you don’t already have one.
Drag and drop the Text Widget into the sidebar, then click on the “Configure” Icon on the right of the widget and simply Paste the code into the box.
Close the box, and Save Changes.
That’s all…
Unfortunately I don’t know how to use Camtasia(never done IM videos, now I wish I did) so I can’t be of too much help here John

Oh Sorry,
I was too exicted and I forget about to tell you what I know.
Well, I can speak and talk of course.
I have worked on wordpress and blogger at the moment. The rest I can learn pretty fast, just let me know which type of blog you want to demo on.
Use camtasia before and knows how to make it work.
Writing out written tutorial is not a problem. Give me more info, it will be easy.
Let me know if I can help you on this. See you on email.

Wordpress:2.1 and earlier you can use widgets (download plugin) or edit themes
Wordpress:2.2 onwards Widgets is built in or edit themes if you dont use widgets
If you choose to edit themes, you would normally have to edit both sidebar.php and single.php depending on how your themes are constructed (some themes use sidebar.php in the single.php, some don’t)
You shouldn’t edit sidebar code if you are using widgets, as it won’t be displayed.
Wordpress.com - you won’t be able to use it currently - long-term you will be able to add something that uses RSS feeds and image tracking in the same way MyBlogLog has implemented for Wordpress.com and Myspace.
New Blogger - Add a page element (HTML/Javascript) - give it a title, paste in the code and save - you can use drag and drop of the elements to position them where you want, and then save layout.
Old Blogger - You will need to edit the template, look for Begin #sidebar in the code, and look at how it is structured compared to what is displayed to decide where to paste the code. Each element will typically start with a H2 with a class of sidebar-title
Always make backups of any code you play around with by copying it to a text file on your harddrive.
I don’t use MT or Typepad, but I hope this helps in the short term.
I hope that helps in the short term

A *sincere* thanks, Andy. You da man!
Okay, time for some sleep for a few hours. I’ll be back.

I think im getting mixed signals here… some say its possible on Wordpress some say it’s not currently?

Hi John,
I’m a web designer/developer/video grapher (aspiring Internet marketer). I’ve done video creation and editing work in adobe premiere, made camtasia videos for dreamweaver, photoshop (as my products) in the past.
I’d be more than happy to help out. Nice work by the way.

Hi Razvan
For wordpress, I followed your instructions and copied the script into the text widget and saved changes. But the widget does not appear in my main blog and when I revisit the text widget, the script is gone.
Any idea what’s wrong?
September 15th, 2007 at 4:52 am
It is possible, see what guys above wrote, I just followed the advice and voila - it’s there!
September 15th, 2007 at 4:54 am
Forgot to mention, I’ve worked on wordpress and blogger, wordpress.com
Raja Sekharan
September 15th, 2007 at 4:55 am
Jason, if your blog is on wordpress.com, at this time you will not be able to use Blogrush
Wordpress.com does not allow the use of javascript unless you pay for their VIP hosting solution which I believe costs ~$250 per month
September 15th, 2007 at 4:57 am
Alrighty thanks Andy~
September 15th, 2007 at 5:08 am
BTW John, the blog rush code is clashing with the “digg” code:
When I put the above code and the blogrush code on the same page, I get the “digg this” button where the blogrush bar is supposed to be.

@Jason my instructions were for people who use wordpress on their hosting account, not hosted by wordpress.
September 15th, 2007 at 5:27 am
I will be able to help with some written tutorials which can be step by step with screenshots… Would be able to create for blogger, wordpress, typepad, Movable Type and some other blog platforms.. I will be able to setup in pdf, .doc, and html, and will setup some other formats..
Will be able to setup some basic step by step for rss feed screenshots….for adding a feed to a reader online off line.
The reason why I want to do this is to help people that does not know how to do it and to get your Traffic Secrets, I did not buy your Traffic Secrets that time due to cash.. I can still remember the first traffic secrets and you had free pdf file that I downloaded and you took a photo at you dad home…yes that is way back..
So let me go down in history with you…I am already busy brainstorming some more ideas to create a help section…

I may be of help. I have a mac though, so I use an app called “iShowU” by shinywhitebox.com
The premise of my newest site (tutspot.com) is actually to provide video tutorials to webmasters, so once I get some content up you should be able to go off that to see whether or not you like my style. I just got the design integrated into wordpress last night so my first video tutorial should be up later tonight.

John,
This is off-topic to this post, but directly related to BlogRush. One of my blog readers raised a good point.
He basically can’t put the widget on his site, because his blog doesn’t have any sidebars! He asked if you could make a horizontally arranged version of the widget. To quote him: “I don’t have sidebars on my blog, so I’d prefer to tuck the code under each post or maybe on the footer.” (His blog is at 2dolphins.com )
I’d encourage you to make that quite a priority consideration, because there’s probably quite a few other blogs like that around. (After you’ve slept a bit, of course
)
Best,
Paul Hancox

Hey John - concerning Camtasia as I understand it, it is a very easy tool to master.
Sooo, I would take the opportunity and ensure users could follow the installation(s) on this platform. Too, I have excellent English writing skills.
My experience lies with WordPress and Blogger but I’d be eager to pursue the other formats.
If I can help in any way, I’d be honored.
By the way, I’ve just viewed the BLOGRUSH video and all I can say is Congratulations! What an absolute superb concept! I believe this will change internet marketing/socialization on a very grand scale! Thank you =)

I recently created some free videos on using RSS here:
http://www.patbdoyle.com/?page_id=46
You are free to use them. If you will have a lot of people looking at them, let me know, and I can give you the files so you can host them on your own site, so you don’t use up all my bandwidth
I could also create a WordPress camtasia video for your widget (for self-hosted blogs, not wordpress.com), but I am kind of pressed for time right now - let me know your deadline and details if you are interested…

In case you haven’t got what you’re looking for yet, I can do a Camtasia video on how to install the code on a self-hosted Wordpress blog. I’ve got experience with Camtasia and have made many instructional how-to videos in the past. I’m very good at making things simple, easy to understand, and broken down into a step-by-step process.
If you still need help, hit me up on email.
Thanks.

Hey John,
I’m sure you’ve already got somebody to do this for you, but if for some reason you still need anyone I can definitely get it done.
I have (and use expertly) Camtasia, have several Wordpress Blogs, and have had several Blogger blogs. Moveable Type and Typepad should both be easy enough to demonstrate as well.
If you need written demo’s with screen shots to go along with the videos, I can produce those in both HTML and PDF form.
I’ve done many educational style videos (mostly geared toward newbies) and I’m told I have a excellent speaking voice in those videos.
Beyond that I don’t know what else to tell you. If you still need someone to take care of this for you I can get it done by Monday at the latest. Most likely sooner.
Thanks,
Tony.

For Wordpress with widgits enabled, put the script John gave you in a text box and wrap it in a div aka: {script here}
Add a title, I used: Check out These Blogs or Signup & Add Your Posts Free. Remember to save changes.
Works great for me.

PS Last night’s launch was great fun and the product looks great. Thanks John.

How do I wrap it in a div? I tried putting the whole script in like this : {Script},
that didn’t work,
the {} showed up in the sidebar when I viewed the site.

Just hit me back on email and I’d be happy to help.

Raymond,
I tried typing in http://www.internet-income-alliance.com/feed
I get the same error message: “Feed has invalid format. (Parse Error: Invalid feed format)”
I’ve cleared my cashe, logged out and then back in, nothing seems to work.
This is on a WordPress blog I host on my own domain.
Anyone got any other ideas.
Jerry Nielsen
September 15th, 2007 at 11:46 am
Jerry Nielsen….
I had that happen to, on my WP blog. But a little while later it worked for me.
I didnt do anything different.
All I can suggest is to wait a bit. Maybe it has to do with the number of people signing up to BlogRush.
Joel
September 15th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
Do you have a feed set up on your domain, you may have to look it up in your hosting
dashboard.
September 15th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Hi John,
I’m confused about the mathematics behind Blogrush.
How can the network accommodate all the views for blogposts if you get pageview credits up to 10 generations of referrals to Blogrush, because there is only a certain amount of widget pageviews available per day?
September 15th, 2007 at 12:28 pm
Dirk
I have reviewed Blogrush quite extensively on my blog, but the one thing impossible to pin down is the percentages, because it is likely to be different now, and in 2 weeks time for instance.
If you have signed up, you will notice there isn’t currently a way to purchase additional inventory, but the widgets have to be filled somehow.
Then you have to consider that most people joining now (well all I would suppose) don’t have 10 members in their upline, thus again there is lots of spare inventory.
I would think for now close to 100% is going out to the network.
The wider this is promoted, the more chance your content will display on relevant blogs, and the more chance relevant content will appear on your own blog.
Might be worth reasin my review about that… sometimes content could be too relevant.
At the end of the day, John has so much karma in reserve, the best option is just to go with the flow and trust him
September 15th, 2007 at 1:01 pm
Hey there John,
Starting with the good news first about a WordPress Blog
hosted on our own Domain using the Default Theme 1.5 {Kubrick}
from WordPress. BlogRush Java Script works fine for this Blog.
You would simply sign-in and Click >> Presentation >>
Theme Editor >> side bar
Just paste the BlogRush Code where You want it to appear on Your
(side bar) , please remember to use these tags, before Your
Java Script Code at the end of script. Now be sure and
Click >> Update File Button, just at the end above WordPress
Icon at the end of page.
Now View Your Blog, the BlogRush should be in place and working.
Now if You are running your Blog from the WordPress Platform as
I do with one of my Blogs, You are not allowed to use Java Script
at WordPress as someone stated above in comments. If You have the
drag and drop widget Plugin for Your Side Bar, when You drag a
Text Widget into the side and attempt to save it, the System will
NOT allow. Therefore whatever code You placed in the Text Widget
will be lost with Java Script.
John, MyBlogLog was able to solve this problem at WordPress with
the Blogs running from their platform. The people over there can
advise Your programmers as how to make the code needed to work
here from a Blog that is using Free hosting from WordPress. Until
we have all things working well from the above situation we just
add BlogRush on our BlogRoll from our Blog hosted Free at
WordPress using our referral link for those who visit our Blog.
http://upperroom.wordpress.com/
Hope this will help a few using WordPress until the problem is
fully solved for everyone. Be Blessed always…Peace!

Hi John,
I’d also like to “apply” for the Camtasia videos workpackage
I’m a PhD student (computer science) and I’ve made camtasia training videos in the past (although it was for signal processing software). I also teach classes and I think I’m beginning to understand how people perceive new things.
Unfortunately, I’ve only used Wordpress (installed it on my own server) in the past but I’m pretty confident I can figure out how to install the widget on other blog platforms as well
I intend to do Camtasia videos and either powerpoint or PDF slides.
Take care,
Alex

John,
I own EZ WAY ENTERPRISES Inc. I do this for a living. I MAKE THINGS EASY FOR PEOPLE. .
I have the ability to do anything, I do not feel that any guru has the proper support when it comes to there products, a forum, a video, and a pdf DOES NOT cut it for me, if you can digially
create it, THEN DO IT, the more the better,
I can ramble off 50+ things you can do for your support but i’d rather tell them to you over the phone,
a few things will be “MIND MAPS” for easy learning, MP3’s, Productorials, and a “EZWAY”solution such as …
“THE EZWAY TO MAKE MONEY WITH INCOME.COM”
or
“THE EZWAY TO USE BLOGRUSH”
that won’t just be a pdf or video it will be a compleate easy to understand learning system all about your prouduct and company.
the site on http://www.ezway.com is a few years old, i have a web 2.0 version that is 5 years ahead of it’s time ready to launch.

I posted a comment earlier about 3 videos I made about BlogRush. I see that it is still in moderation, probably because I linked to each video, which was too many links. So, in the meantime, just go to the main video page and you can access all the videos from there. Here is the link for the main video page:
http://www.patbdoyle.com/?page_id=46
The 3 videos are (1) how to find out your Feed URL (2) how to put the BlogRush code on your WordPress blog, and (3) how to put the BlogRush code on your Blogger blog.
Feel free to view them. Hope they help.

I’d be interested in working on the videos. My day job is with a manufacturing company
as an electronic media developer. I design and code their websites, shoot and edit training videos, record and edit audio training, make cds, dvds, create forms for the enterprise
system, and many other things.
I use Joomla mainly for my side projects, but have used Wordpress in the past.
I’m confident that I can make a quality product that will be an asset to the BlogRush
brand.

BlogRush is a great little widget, I love it.
I work with your buddy Dean Jackson and I’d be more than capable of creating some written step-by-step instructions as well as some Camtasia videos in the next couple day.

Hi John,
In case no one has already done it, I’ve created two quick video tutorials for adding the BlogRush Widget to the WP sidebar.
The first one deals with adding it using the WordPress widgets and is for Widget enabled WP installs and widget-friendly themes. The second is applying the code directly into the sidebar.php file from the WP admin panel.
No charge of course. Hope they help.
~ Teli
September 15th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
Oh, and another note: WordPress.com users cannot add the BlogRush widget to their sidebars. WP.com automatically strips JavaScript and additional code it deems inappropriate (for security reason) from all user generated content.

Hey John
I would love to help out!
I create tips and tricks for a wide audience, from basic users to Technical users
and receive positive feedback from all. *side note: i have the necessary tools at home*
These are presented in different formats eg video and in written instruction. I’m big
on visuals and screen shots as “a picture is worth a thousand words”
I take care and ensure i include step-by-step instructions, cause *doh* there is
nothing more frustrating then following instructions with steps missing.
Many thanks John
