BlogRush Is Slightly Delayed

UPDATE: 12:02AM EST. (SATURDAY MORNING!)
@@@@@@@ BREAKING NEWS @@@@@@@

***** WE LAUNCH BY 2AM EST. NO MATTER WHAT! *****

I want to apologize to everyone that has been following this “non-launch” ;-) since we were originally supposed to launch at 6PM EST. Unfortunately, BlogRush is a major undertaking and we’ve already had some growing pains before even opening our doors!

THIS IS IT… I promise! (Or you will get to watch me on video lighting 10 high-end servers on fire.)

2AM EST. That’s it. GO TIME. I hope we can release a few minutes before that, but that’s our “last call” point we set to have plenty of extra time for any last minute adjustments.

**** STANDBY FOR A NEW BLOG POST IN JUST A FEW MOMENTS… YOU’LL GET TO SEE A FRIGHTENING SIGHT… ME AFTER 41 HOURS WITHOUT SLEEP!

** We’ll be posting that video I promised you within a few more minutes or so… we’re uploading it to our media server and getting it ready to go…

Stay tuned!!!

OLD NEWS:

***** We’re still dealing with the idiotic email filter problem. We have bumped the launch time until 11PM EST. [UPDATE: AND HAD TO BUMP IT ONE LAST TIME.] We really want to OPEN THE DOORS but we need to solve this issue or many will have difficulty confirming their email addresses. (Because the confirm emails will get filtered into their spam or junk folder and many will miss them.)

We’re getting closer… and no matter what we’ll be putting a cool VIDEO on the blog in a few minutes that goes over BlogRush. You’ll be able to watch that to pass the time if we don’t get the site opened up for a little bit longer.

* The annoying issue we are dealing with right now is that Gmail and Hotmail are filtering our system emails as SPAM. Gmail doesn’t like us using www.blogrush.com in the URLs in email. If we use just hostname.blogrush.com/xxxxx the mail does not get filtered as spam. It’s the weirdest thing. Anyone have any experience with this issue? If so, PLEASE post a comment with any advice. This is driving us nuts.

—–

We are experiencing a minor issue with one of our servers and need a bit more time to fine-tune it. We’re very close.

We are now tentatively scheduled to launch at 9PM EST. (It might be earlier. Keep checking this blog.)

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. I promise, the wait will be well worth it.

It’s better for us to catch all these issues (even minor ones) rather than launch and then have a major problem that keeps you from being able to do anything. ;-)

Thanks for your patience.

~John

Man I have insomnia because of this … no rant, just excited :D

It’s 1.41 AM here and I’m not gonna sleep tonight ’cause I want to be one of the first to test drive BlogRush.

    :D:D:D

  2. John Reese Says:

    Hey Razvan,

I’m really sorry for keeping you awake. I’ve been awake about 37 straight hours working with my team on this thing. We’re very close but just have a minor issue to work out. BlogRush is running on many servers (with load balancing, redundancy, etc.) and so it’s a bit difficult to track down problems as compared to 1 server.

    Hey John,

It’s 1:36 A.M. Here in Croatia. I see that will be some serious stuff. I’m not mad that I’m awake :-), lol.

  4. Hannes Johnson Says:

I can’t wait to join - but it’s certainly understandable that you don’t want to rush things (no pun intended). Better to launch when everything is ready and working rather than launch and then have it all brake down a few hours later :)

    You tease us, sir :)

Seriously though, I’m really looking forward to this, John. I can see the incredible power in this system already, and it hasn’t even been launched yet!

I have the feeling I will be one of your louder “evangelists” :)

    Best,

    Paul

  8. Brandon Hall Says:

I’m surprised you’re having problems with Gmail. Our problems normally occur with Comcast and Earthlink. Gmail is normally pretty good about picking out the right emails to mark as spam.

    My advice:

    1. Get rid of all the warnings on this page: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=blogrush.com

Especially the Mismatched Glue and the SPF record

    2. Call the Planet and see if they offer any advice about avoiding spam filters. I doubt they would be much help, but it’s worth a try.

    3. Fix the A records for the Nameserver. If there are any inconsistencies it will throw an error. I know with Earthlink and Comcast they will just throw you on the list without care or concern for your business. Knowing Google, they focus on all the technical stuff: mismatched nameservers, inconsistencies in mail headers, etc…

Don’t know what to tell you about Hotmail, but these spam filters are a complete pain. Good luck to you. I’m sure your team is highly qualified to fix these problems.

One more thing… Get yourself setup with these folks: http://www.habeas.com/en-US/Senders/Safelist/

I’m sure it’s quite an investment, but definitely worth it. I don’t have any experience using their premium services, but we do have the Reputation Monitor.

  10. John Reese Says:

Brandon - A sincere THANK YOU. We’re making these changes. Boy, these spam filters are a pain in the butt. But without our email confirmation messages being delivered, people can’t activate their accounts.

  11. Dylan Jones Says:

“But without our email confirmation messages being delivered, people can’t activate their accounts.”

Oh the woes of software development :(

I am so glad to see the biggest dog in this industry practicing what they preach. Your going to own the BlogRush media, which is awesome.

I really like what you and Brad has done. Do it big, do it damn good, and get it out there.

I can’t wait to put this little widget on blog. :)

    Take Care John!

  12. shane Says:

Wow, so it looks like were having a look at the anatomy of a web product launch. Good on you john for for putting your skin out in the open where we can see how raw and ragged it gets chaffing on the niggly small details. Very cool to see that kind of openess.
We’re all pushing for you though.
    Cheers and Beers From Canada

  13. Kyle M Brown Says:

Im all to familiar with deployments. Sounds like your doing it the right way. Avoiding shortcuts and trying to get it right. Good Luck on a successful launch.

I JUST found income.com 4 minutes ago and ended up here. I’ve skimmed the recent articles on BlogRush.com and feel like I just walked into a secret grand opening. Now I’m excited. It’s 11:57pm EST. What’s going on with BlogRush? Or was I supposed to sign up for something?

  17. Razvan Rovinaru Says:

Hey John, you don’t have to apologize because I know the wait is totally worth it :)

I’ve already learned so much here, and the network hasn’t even launched.

  22. Tracy Says:

Hmm, a spin on the regular product launch formula, at least you are blaming the problems on server issues and email deliverability before the launch even starts, lol.

Before anybody starts flaming, I say the above all in jest, and will stay up the extra hour to see what it all looks like. Everything Reese does is solid! 8)

  23. Dee Says:

    John & crew,
We SO appreciate all the hard work you’re putting in to iron out the wrinkles…

  24. Barry Says:

Hmmm….midnight….my bet is that John and company have turned into pumkins. =)))

  25. Robin Skeen Says:

I’ll have to get in tomorrow….rats. But it’s good to get in on something that works rather than deal with bugs. All the best!!

  26. Razvan Rovinaru Says:

    @Tracy I don’t think that’s the case here … he doesn’t need to create any more anticipation…

Plus the guy hasn’t slept in 37 hours I’m sure he wants to launch this thing as soon as possible so he can get some well earned rest.

  27. Thad Winston Says:

    John,
This is AWESOME…Of course I don’t like waiting any more than anyone else,
but the massive effort you guys are making to get us something that you are not
    even charging for is admirable…

John, 2 am and all IS well! Thanks for being you.
    Thad
