“It” Finally Gets Revealed - BlogRush | |||

|
[UPDATE] Posted at 6:30PM EST. 09/14/07: We are experiencing a minor server issue and we are working on the problem. We are now tentatively scheduled to launch at 9PM EST. (It might be earlier.) I apologize for the lack of activity on the blog lately. Our entire team has been working long hours for the past several weeks and you’re about to discover why… A few weeks ago, I explained how we’d be launching something that would become part of the Income.com Network that we’re building — and then Income.com would launch after that. Well, this mystery service is all set for a public beta launch this Friday, September 14th. We will probably launch around mid-day. I’ll post the exact time soon. ![]() BlogRush is the name of the service we are finally releasing (after many months of development). It’s a free service that will help any blogger generate more traffic and readers for their blog. Using RSS technology and some of our own, we’ve built an amazing platform to help bloggers receive “mass distribution” for their content across the Internet. And our system doesn’t spam or abuse the Internet in anyway. And it doesn’t try and ‘game’ Google either. We’re extremely proud of what we’ve built. It’s pretty darn cool if I do say so myself. I’ll give you the “Short Version” of how it works… It’s a completely FREE service. You start by creating an account and place a small piece of code on your blog. (Like in your sidebar beneath your nav links). And here’s what will load: ![]() This is a screenshot of what the BlogRush “widget” looks like. Each time a page loads with this widget, the widget will refresh with 5 blog post titles (along with the name of the blog or author; the user’s choice) and a link to the full post and blog. Links open in a new window so it doesn’t take a visitor away from the original blog showing the widget. These blog links will be from related blogs across the BlogRush Network. Each blog in our network gets set to a specific category that defines its content. We’re combining this with proprietary technology that we are developing to help serve relevant posts. These additional links offer great value to a blog visitor, but the real power of the service is how it helps blogs generate more traffic… Each time the widget gets loaded on any page of someone’s blog, they’ll have one of their latest blog post titles and a link served inside the widget on another related blog. But it goes wayyy beyond that… See the “Add Your Blog Posts - FREE” area at the bottom of the widget? And the BlogRush tab? Well, if anyone clicks on either of those areas they will be taken to the BlogRush web site where they can learn about the free service and start hosting the widget on their site. BUT that’s not free advertising for BlogRush. Those links serve a powerful purpose… When someone joins BlogRush, our system knows exactly WHERE they came from. The originating blog gets permanently marked in our system as the “referrer” for that new blog. And as you may have already guessed, the original blog now earns additional “syndication credit” on all the traffic that the referring blog produces — every single day. But it doesn’t stop there. If that new blog refers another user, that original blog then earns credits based on THAT new user as well. It continues through 10 “generations” of referrals with no limit to the number of blogs and/or traffic that can be produced by any level. This ‘process’ provides incredible LEVERAGE. You can have a blog that gets just 1 visitor a week, but if that next visitor happens to be someone with a blog that gets 25,000 visits a day, and they click your widget and sign up, you’ll start having your blog posts promoted over 25,000 TIMES A DAY. And that doesn’t even count all the potential “viral growth” that can then occur from that blog referring other blogs. It’s very, very powerful. There have been some services in the past online that have tried similar “traffic exchange” models. But no one has ever done it with CONTENT — and definitely not anywhere close to what we have developed. In the past, it’s only been done with ADVERTISING. Which as most know, many people tune-out and has little or no value for the visitor to that page. I believe BlogRush is truly an innovative development for the Internet. So much so that we’re filing multiple patents on some of our concepts and technology. There’s a lot more to BlogRush… for example, you can setup keyword filters if you never want certain blog post titles to be displayed inside the widget on your blog, for example, that ever mention “iPhone.” Or you can add a filter to completely block an entire’s blog from ever having its post titles shown inside your widget. You can also add multiple blogs to your BlogRush account and decide how you want to use your “syndication credits.” You can use them all on one of your blogs, or split them up equally. It’s up to you. If you have a blog, you’ll definitely want to join the public beta as soon as it goes live. There’s a definite advantage to being an “early adopter” of this service as far as referrals are concerned. As always, feel free to post your comments, feedback, etc. I’ll be posting more news within 24 hours. This is only the BEGINNING. ~John |

September 13th, 2007 at 12:49 am
Seem it’s amazing and I could not wait to try it tomorrow .. thanks
September 13th, 2007 at 12:58 am
Hi John
Sounds interesting. Interested in trying it out - got to see if the benefits exceed the leaks we are introducing in our blog
Which blog platforms are compatible? I am sure you are covering Wordpress but which other blog platforms?
Arun Agrawal
http://www.RentABlogger.com
September 13th, 2007 at 1:08 am
Arun - it works with any blog that supports javascript; which is 90% of them. I think LiveJournal is one of the few it will not work with. If you can add AdSense to your blog, you can add BlogRush.
September 13th, 2007 at 1:13 am
John, the logo looks a little mundane and nondescript
September 13th, 2007 at 1:28 am
Can I put this on a regular website?
September 13th, 2007 at 1:32 am
Sounds intersting - look forward to seeing it in action. What format will the links be in? i.e. just straight links, javascript, redirect, nofollow?
September 13th, 2007 at 1:34 am
Where do I sign up!! Looks great John - can’t wait. When you say the posts will be from “similar” blogs…how is that determined? Is there a setting where we put in some keywords, or is it automated in an “adsense” sort of way?
September 13th, 2007 at 1:36 am
Nice idea John, if you need help with the logo let me know ; )
September 13th, 2007 at 1:37 am
Hi John,
Sounds like a great idea ~ count me in.

Looking forward to seeing some more info about this tomorrow.

September 13th, 2007 at 1:50 am
Mike - no, it’s only for blogs.
David - it runs via Javascript; like AdSense.
Jim - you select a category for your blog, like “Marketing” or “Business” (in your case.)
September 13th, 2007 at 1:57 am
How very Web 2.0 and it sounds great! Can’t wait to try this out John, excited to hear the beginning phases of Income.com are coming along. I like the logo, btw.

John,
This is rather innovative. I’m a huge blogger (have way to many of them) but I am always trying to find ways to get exposure for my blogs. I’m signing up when it’s ready.
Keep it coming!

September 13th, 2007 at 2:19 am
Uber Cool John. I love the way you’ve built the power of viral marketing into BlogRush and, as you say, it only takes one visitor with a Big Blog to deliver buckets of traffic. Can you imagine going from 1 visitor a week to having your blog promoted on a 25,000 a day site? Talk about step-function traffic increases. And Free Too.
I’ll be implementing it. I can’t really see why anyone wouldn’t, especially given that you allow keyword and Blog filtering which is a smart touch.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:26 am
Thanks, Angela and Greg!
William - yes, it has a lot of potential. And as far as that leverage example is concerned (25,000 a day) it’s actually BETTER than that. Because the exposure that person would be would be 25,000 a day across MANY blogs related to theirs; not just the person they referred.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:29 am
Wow — This sounds great John! I look forward to testing it out.
All the best,

Hi John,
This service is just great! I believe its going to be niche based for many Internet marketers to really connect with each other on a regular basis. As well, making this service for FREE, thats is just awesome. Can’t wait to check it out at launch.
Cheers,
Vern
P.S. do keep it comin !
September 13th, 2007 at 2:40 am
Blogrush certainly sounds interesting John. Especially since its free. Will be looking forward to the launch on friday.
Sidetracking a bit, am waiting for the main launch of the membership for income.com and Traffic Secrets 2. Purchased Traffic Secrets and simply loved it.

This sounds like a tall order: “mass distribution†for their content across the Internet. And our system doesn’t spam or abuse the Internet in anyway. And it doesn’t try and ‘game’ Google either.
I’m looking forward to seeing it in action…
September 13th, 2007 at 3:13 am
Hi John,
This seems very exciting.
All I ask is that you dont forget the blind, and disabled community.
if you have any buttons, and, or graphics,…Please!…Please put some text captions for each button, graphics, slider, and anything functional that sighted people take for granted that everyone can see them.
Thanks
Kevin
PS…blind people use screen readers to use their computers, and surf the web.
If there is no text for the screen reader to read, the reader is in fact blind to what is on the page.
If things are not labeled with text captions, such as buttons.
The screen reader will simply say “Button”…and the blind person has no idea what that button does.
The key here is that you must be painfully discriptive for blind people to visualize what is going on.

Nice one John,
Looking forward to playing with it very soon …

Hi John,
At last you opened up something surprising we’ve been waiting so long!
Thanks and congratulations! Though I’m a newbie (especially to what concerns blogging) I’m intuitively feeling you’ve created something GREAT! I mean that concept of 1 visitor per week brings 25 000 in traffic!
Would be great if you showed the way where to start learning the blogging for beginners and benefit from BlogRush! Please!

P.S. And please, from now on don’t torture us any more by disappearing for so long!

John, this is another innovation to immortalize and to further confirm you as one of the true forerunners of internet marketing. I’m sure this legacy will live long even after you.
However, i don’t have a site yet not even a blog, so this might not be readily useful for me now - i just got a domain name which i don’t know what to do with it. I’ve been waiting for income.com since last year for direction.
Please, John do something quick on it, may be you should do it in phases.
CONGRATS.

Hi John
Are there any limits to how many sites you can block and can you do it without having to manually type things in (e.g. the small “x” used by MyBlogLog)?
Are applications filtered in some way?
I don’t want to throw dampers on things and have referred hundreds of people to various blog widget providers in the past (with very little benefit), and am always looking for “blog bling” to try out and replace existing services.
i am just worried that people will build up referals, and then rotate their traffic between various payday loan sites, and as soon as you block one, the next hydra head gets added.
September 13th, 2007 at 6:42 am
John,
This sounds awesome. I agree with the fact there hasn’t been a content-based solution like this, only advertising-based. I am ready to start using it on my blog “today” if it was ready.
Thanks for the hard work you do.
September 13th, 2007 at 6:50 am

Just an idea.

Hi John!
I’d love to know if this will be able to work on a Squidoo lens, too. At the very least, i’ll
use it on my blogs, but I like how my feeds work on lenses right now, and this would be
an extra perk for those.
I also write a big newsletter for a client and I’ll be sure to add this gem in their “new

Take care!

Will there be a Pro version - can people upgrade to get more features/benefits?
I look forward to joining on Friday.
September 13th, 2007 at 6:59 am
John,
Sounds like it has great potential — but just for the asking, is the widget something we can define in terms of….
1. How wide the widget displays on our blog.
2. Can we change the color of the widget?
3. Will we be able to change the font to match our blog style sheet?
And so many other questions come to mind.
Thanks for answering…

Hi John,
Don’t get me wrong on this… but once bitten
twice shy!
Way back in 2002, there was another traffic
system by another guru Mark Joyner.
It was Startbalaze.com
Being a beginner and operating from ancient
Internet conditions in India that time ($2/hr for
Internet from a dial-up with 0.5KB/sec!),
from a loaned PC and with meager resources
I spend a lot of time on Startblaze. Had a sizable
downlline.
But you know what happened to it.
Now I am no longer a beginner but still the
10-tier thing sends a chill down my spine!

The first thing that struck me with this concept was that it’s probably great if you’re pitching at Internet Marketers, i.e. people who are interested in promoting their own blog, but if the target market for your blog is a B2C category, like shopping, the majority of your visitors probably haven’t got a blog so you’ll struggle to gain credits.
Am I right? Or am I missing the point?

Some public blogging platforms do not permit javascript for security reasons, wordpress.com among them. Often gadget developers will come up with html that can provide most of the functionality of the java code. Any chance of that down the road?

Hello John,
Congrats on your roll-out. What a great way to get more leverage from you assets.
Looking forward to giving BlogRush a test-drive.

Hi:
After taking traffic secrets you have a lot to live up to. LOL
I am sure you will easily do it though, the concept looks great. Look forwad to being a part of this,
Thanks,

Great concept John, I can’t wait to participate. It’s refreshing to see a new idea, and one that helps bloggers.
September 13th, 2007 at 9:25 am
Is it also for blogs in German language?
September 13th, 2007 at 9:39 am
WHoa John,
This sounds like an incredible way to generate some serious traffic. Did you say this was free? I can’t wait to try this out.
Thanks John,
Ted
September 13th, 2007 at 9:39 am
Cool stuff. Wish I would have thought of that! Can’t wait. Kudos John!
September 13th, 2007 at 9:43 am
Sounds interesting John, but the big key will be getting it to work OUTSIDE the Internet Marketing/SEO space and preventing spam (since it is free service). Will it catch on enough so that we can actually get it to work to introduce people to other high-end niche markets? How do you plan to handle spam content - which seems to render most new ideas ineffective after a certain period of time? For example, the blog post might say - “How to change your life in 7 easy steps”. Then you get to the blog and it’s an ad for viagra. - That’s why the ad and traffic exchange networks don’t work for anyone who is selling a legitimate (read - adds real value to your life) product. The concept in theory looks like it could be a winner with some controls - good thinking on your part.
September 13th, 2007 at 9:44 am
Hi John,
Congratulations for the new ‘baby’ on your Income’s network. Can’t wait to see it goes live.
But there’s a question for you that I eager to know the answer;
Since these service is free, how do you monetize it? Would you use AdSense only or you have a long term plan like selling it at higher price to big boys (Google, etc.)?
September 13th, 2007 at 9:51 am
Hi John
Although I have a number of sites running including several wordpress sites, I am clueless on coding. Today I tried to add some adsense code into the spare space on the side bar of a site - with no resulting adsense display. I did this through the style.css as it seemed to be the only place available.
You are advocating putting your code into the same sidebar place. Will I not get the same result - or did I put the code into the wrong location.
I think there may be a lot of us uneducated who may need some advice on this.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:00 am
Hi John,
It looks like a supervirus is about to be spread on the web.
Unfortunately, I’ll be on the road and won’t be able to partake right away.
No first mover advantage for me.
But, then again, It’s not about me.
Happy bloggin,
James
September 13th, 2007 at 10:06 am
Damn, John, it looks like you’re about to do it again…change the face of traffic on the net. I’m excited to jump on this. I have two blogs but short of mimicking other blog ideas, I’m not sure who to make the most of them. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Warmly,
LMF
September 13th, 2007 at 10:10 am
John,
You’ve done it again! You never fail to remind me why I’m SO glad to be on your list…
Now, a question: does the user’s blog need to be “widget-ready”?
I just recently picked up a theme that, unfortunately, is not.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:19 am
So let me see if I got this. Everyone who uses Blogrush will have their blog posts served onto widgets of other members who have related blogs? But if someone is referred by signing up through my widget then I earn additional credits which will enable my posts to be served like advertising onto more widgets? Hopefully you are already making a video on Blogrush for Dummies. Sounds cool.

Hi,
I haven’t been this happy and excited in a long time! I can’t believe
what is about to happen. Blogging is new to me; and I really wanted
to learn how to do it, and be successful; now, thanks to you John, I will!
This is just what I need to help promote my business online. From what I
understand, this is the newest thing on line for great contacts, with people
of “like minds!” I just, can’t wait to get rolling!!!
Thanks Johh….I just can’t get over this awesome opportunity being “free!”

That sounds pretty cool. I am very interested in trying that.
September 13th, 2007 at 11:21 am
This is interesting and I’m sure a lot more details are forthcoming but I’m not clear on the example given about getting someone with 25k visitors/day signed up under you and then benefiting from their traffic.
Unless that person (my referral) has a blog related to my market (uses the same category in Blog Rish as me) then I will not benefit from their traffic since my blog content is not related to their blog content so my links would not show up in their widget because the content “theme” doesn’t match????
OR Perhaps I am misinterpreting the example.
Does it work this way:
My site receives syndication credits based on the traffic of the referred site that can then go towards page views on other sites in my content category and not necessarily on the site I referred???
Also, is their an algorithm (or some review process) that automatically reviews the content of new sites added to the network to make sure their content legitimately fits into a particular category?
Looking forward to more details!

Hi. My website is a replicate with several versions to choose from and exchange weekly
if I wish. My son, whoi s a websmaster says, all replicate websites are not strong enough
for google to take a good place. After 2 or 3 similar replicates are placed there, then
the surfer looses interest and moves to another keyword or site. They have discovered
that they are all the same, and if the company is international, can try other countries
in their own language. I have yet to start a blog. Am learning what they are, but the
slang on the sites is quite discouraging for us oldies who have no idea what is being
talked about or what is certainly and obviously “going on”. Good Luck with this new
venture. I am a distributor for the Sunrider Int”l C/O for Wellness products and
ecologically friendly cleaning materials, natural cosmetics (all products ex=petrolium.

Reese… you’re a genius. There’s no doubt this will create massive traffic and value for bloggers. In the “gold rush” it was the guys selling the picks and shovels who got rich. You’re doing the same by providing a great tool that every blogger needs. I’m curious about the revenue model though… are you going to have an advertising section integrated into the widget (e.g. your own adsense?) or just use it to drive massive free traffic to your own money making blogs and feeder sites? - Drew
September 13th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
Thank you for the idea to help us to drive the traffic to our blogs.
Most of internet marketer are studying hard about traffic.

No traffic=no money.

It was nice seeing you at the LA party - what a fun event eh?
Suggestion:
Submit your profile to:

(editors email is nick@techcrunch.com) they
would eat this story up and get you a ton of
exposure - i forgot the exact number but a huge
% of their traffic are bloggers.
The rest are web 2.0 geeks and VC’s looking
to throw out huge amounts of cash to fund
projects like these to the next level.
I’ve had 3 companies I built profiled there and
it always lead to tons of traffic and lots of
interesting contacts, investment inquires, ect.

How does BlogRush help Income.com ?

John says “You can have a blog that gets just 1 visitor a week, but if that next visitor happens to be someone with a blog that gets 25,000 visits a day”
I am wondering why a bloggers with 250,000 visitors will be visiting a blog that just have one visitor.
I may be wrong. Does it sound like a pyramid traffic exchange program. It may be designed for routing traffic from one blog to another blog, just in the old days the porn industry used to do.
It is like you scratch my back and I will scratch your back among the top bloggers and than grabbing visitors from small fish.
I know I am very critical about this. I hope I am wrong and this is the greatest invention since the slice bread.
September 13th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Hi John
Sounds interesting. There are a number of questions since your last reply that really need to be responded to. I know it’s the day before launch day and you’re probably run off your feet and operating on caffiene, but a question like “How does your company benefit from this?” is, I feel, a valid one.
Okay, you have every right to respond “None of your business!” and I appreciate that, but my concern is that your revenue model somehow comes at a price to the users. Knowing your track record, I don’t expect that to be the case, but I’m still cautious about such things.
There were also a couple of questions about how it will combat things like the blog links (in the widget) being for a post about [insert topic related to my blog category] but ending up at some porn site or viagra site or link farm or payday loads site something. This question also needs to be answered before you should expect people to start putting these things on their blogs and potentially LOSING readership because there turn out to be too many junk links.
There was also a good question about the “Credits”. If that mythical someone with a big audience signs up under me but THEIR readership is not in my category, how is this any good to me? Or am I credited in the same way, but my blog posts show up on blogs in the same category as mine?
There were a couple of other good ones too, but I’m outta time and don’t have time to scroll back through the posts.
Hope it turns out to be a winner for everyone involved!
Regards,
Leslie

This sounds great! I applaud you on tapping into the new wave of technologies to develop a widget that adds real value for both the publisher and the visitors.
If I may add just one SUGGESTION, that in my opinion, would help eve more:
add previous (”") buttons at the bottom of the widget, similiar to how msn.com does on their homepage rotating banner, which would act two-fold:
- the visitor would be able to browse through more headlines if they chose, which would give even more exposure to the blogs in the BlogRush network
- each time the feed refreshes (from the visitor hitting ) that would count as another page view for the blog, so that blog would get more credits too
It would basically be a way to increase the amount of exposures that the BlogRush system would serve, given the same amount of eyes.
Take it or leave it - either way - awesome job! I’ll be signing up for sure.

Question 1: Is linking blogs the same as linking content? Do you assume the blogger won’t change content path?
Question 2: Are you sure this is working in niche areas such as technical expertise? I can’t see the content match being that interesting on the blog I just viewed. I will sure give it a try, looks like it should add value.

If that new blog refers another user, that original blog then earns credits based on THAT new user as well. It continues through 10 “generations†of referrals with no limit to the number of blogs and/or traffic that can be produced by any level. […]
