I am such a victim of try to do things that have never been done before. The problem is I love inventing. But I have paid for it dearly. From building community sites that are floundering, to starting flash in the pan “great ideas” that would be the one thing that finally did it. The common thread here is that they were all too new ideas, to far out for people to really grab on to. What is more, I had nothing to sell!
I know there are people who say if you have enough traffic you can make money somehow, but I think most people don’t know how much traffic is really meant by this. You have to have a LOT of traffic to just make money on advertising, and as it well known now, most made-for-adsense sites have already been obsoleted.
This video really explains exactly how to get out of the “idea-guy rut.” I used to be an idea-guy, but through the failures, I have learned to love execution and follow through. You have to really REALLY listen to what is being said here. Unbridled enthusiasm for your great new ideas will kill you faster than a bug hitting a windshield. I only hope some people read this and don’t make the same mistakes I did!!!
My new mantra:
Make working models work better
Make working models work better
Make working models work better

Well, John…I thought I was about to part ways with you in a HUGE way on the message of this video. Then, about halfway through, you shifted direction just a bit to something I could relate to.
I’m sorry…but the world does NOT need a lot more “how to make money online” guys. There may be room out there for about, say…200 of you…but I don’t see much more than that ever having a chance to make any kind of splash. Let’s face it…most people can name less than 100 of the key people in internet marketing. That’s because most of you are pretty far out ahead of the field. There IS such a thing as market saturation. And we’re pretty close to that point, barring some new angles or development of great new tools. As things continue to develop, there will always be shifts in the best way to do things…but I’m going to be listening to handful of people who are truly “in the know”…not those who follow you…or followers two generations removed.
There are, say, 200 of you who have made really, really great money (well, there are a ton who have made black-hat money and always will, but I won’t comment on them)…but there are tens of thousands copying your business model in a somewhat anemic way, and making 2-5K a year. Not enough to justify their existence. Sure…it works for you and some of the others because you sell them a crapload of stuff on how to do what you’ve done. But it does NOT keep trickling down. Repackaging the same old stuff…I disagree that that’s a formula for success.
My point: You said…watch what’s being successful and get ahead of it and profit. Yes…to a point…but there’s only SO MUCH ROOM at the head of the line. Finite space and a finite audience.
HOWEVER, then you said…don’t just copy it…improve it. Here, we agree…add value and uniqueness. That’s where the key is. Don’t just do what someone else is doing…do it better…and, I’ll take it a step further…if you can’t, then don’t bother doing it at all.
I am not suggesting reinventing the wheel…as David said, “making working models work better” is just fine as a mission statement. However, that message has largely been lost among “the faithful”. I’m glad that you put clarified that.
Personally, I’m not giving up on being “the idea guy”. I spend a lot of time teaching people how to make some money online…but I believe the web and the world would be better places if we spent more time teaching people how to take their passion online and market that instead…instead of just building one infinite mailing list or a subscriber base of people desperate to blog about the crumbs that spilled from John Reese’s plate today. To me, that’s not adding value to the world. There’s only one John Reese. We can all learn a ton from you, because you’ve done things the right way. But teaching people how to make money…there is NOT an endless demand for more so-called subject matter experts here. There are only so many original thinkers in the field in terms of breaking new ground. We don’t need a thousand John Reese clones out there doing exactly what you’ve done and pretending that it’s getting them (or us) anywhere.

John,
All good ideas are around but how to capitalize them is the key, It is the execution or the Action part of running with idea, enhancing it so that one can build another ideas on top of that.
(Author of The Myths of Innovation)
Question: Where do inventors and innovators get their ideas?
Answer: I teach a creative thinking course at the University of Washington, and the foundation is that ideas are combinations of other ideas. People who earn the label “creative†are really just people who come up with more combinations of ideas, find interesting ones faster, and are willing to try them out. The problem is most schools and organizations train us out of the habits

The information you have been sharing has been very helpful. I’m thankful that I “stumbled” upon your website. I feel I am learning at the feet of a master.
Thank you for the education!

Great information John
I had thought about doing that already. That’s why I love FREEIQ so much. They build a webpage for you. Then all you have to do is upload the video of Granny making a quilt and all the affiliates will sell it for you. Great system.

I love your thinking, John - it’s awesome.
You’ve taken the big picture of Internet
Marketing and made it clear, easy to
understand, and do-able, even for the
most “wet-behind-the-ears” newbie.
It’s one thing to make a bundle on the
Net, but it’s completely another to be
able to teach how to do that in real time,
Thanks for that. Keep it up!

PS I also love seeing other top Ineternet
Marketers responding to your blog and
videos. It really shows the qualtity of your
info.

awesome.. just awesome!
i had trouble finding an expert in niches who’d make a VIDEO product for me..
i tried all the spots from guru.com to elance.com but no one was an expert
and ready to make a video teaching about the topic..
the enthusist angle you gave is fabolous.. now i can just go into the niche
forum.. notice the guy who’se most passioniate about the subject and
offer him $2k to make a video product..
suddenly it feels a lot easier and possible..
thanks man!

Another Killer Video John,
It’s funny how you manage to point out what would seem to be obvious things yet — no one seems to think about them.
Like about picking affiliate programs. Choose a market and then split test the diffrent programs… and… which ever makes you the most money - promote that one!
Pure Genius
Simple but it’s almost impossible to fail with a strategy like that.
Why bother stomping out new grounds and uncharted territory. Instead you can just take whats already working and innovate and improve on it.
I think you really hit the nail on the head with this one John.
Thanks for sharing such killer info, looking forward to the big launch.

Hey … i can proove what you said about “copy the best and just be a bit better”.
It really works. I have done it already many times. I figure out good ads that run over a longer time (I use KeywordElite to track them down over a certain period) and then i know a new product people are interested in.
Thanks for the great infos you share
Cheers

John,
I couldn’t agree with you more. The internet is full of low hanging fruit… why not go after it instead of trying to plant a tree and hope the branches aren’t too high EVEN if it does produce fruit
Yes the Internet is changing and there are a lot who will fall. The ones who are standing will be cleaning up for sure.
Thanks again for some awesome content!

John,
Thanks for your enthusiasm. Doing what is already working has resulted in quite a few spy tools being sold in the last few months. GoogleCashDetective, UndercoverProfits, AdSpyPro, ZamDoo, and a few others are all over the forums. I agree wholeheartedly that if this approach is used……do Not just copy the top competitor……ad value and make it better and different.

Thank you for the gret video John
But my opinion is that it’s better to Do or at least to Organize something instead of sell something. Maybe it’s just my personal defect though.

Hi John - another comment for this excellent post for “model what works and improve on it” (it’s well documented that the Japanese used exactly this approach post-war to take on the Americans economically).
As Ted mentioned above - there are plenty of tools springing up to help take the time-wasting out of researching “what is already selling.
I’ve been using http://www.zamdoo.com/ (I was also a beta tester and no, that’s not an affiliate link!) and recommend it as a great tool to help do this well.
Well it’s been working for me anyways!

Well guys, I didn’t expect to see anything like that here. It’s amazing. So many shocking news on one website. I’m not sure I can agree with everything , but I’m totally astonished by this words. To be honest, I have never heard this kind of information online. It’s really something very special.
