More On Google’s Universal Search | ||

After doing a little digging, i.e. trying a bunch of crazy searches, I’ve been able to discover some additional stuff about Google’s upcoming Universal Search format… You should be able to do a Google search for “Paris Hilton” and see some of Universal Search in action. If you get the same results page I got here’s what you’ll see at the very top…
As you can see in the above screenshot they have some News results listed first — including a photo pulled from one of the articles. But if you look farther down on the results page (about where the 10th listing would be) you should see this…
Here we can see how they’ve integrated a Video listing on the first page of results. And you can click that “Watch video” link and actually watch the video imbedded within those results. Pretty cool. This leads me to believe that all the relevant Video and Image results won’t just be stacked at the very top of the results page. It looks as if they will be scattered throughout the listings, hopefully, based on relevancy. While this doesn’t take away the fact that optimizing video files will become a more important part of the SEO landscape it does look as if the regular listings might not be hurt as bad as first thought.

There’s only one problem with picking on marketers…it’s too easy.
“This is a MAJOR change that will have a massive impact on the world of SEO.”
Then three days later…well ok, maybe the earth will keep on turning on it’s axis.
I also think it’s worth noting when I did the same “Paris Hilton” search, the top result following the news was the omnipresent wikipedia.org. Text may still have some value after all.

It will STILL have a massive impact on SEO. Just wait and see how many companies start producing videos solely for SEO purposes.

First I googled “rich jerk” to see if my video was there on the first page.
Nope.
Then I tried “rich jerk video” — and I was listed way up thar near the top!
Not that its made me any money or nothin’ — but I kin see how powerful video is becoming online.

Video is just a (SMALL) beggining for SEO! In order to any CONTENT-need to serve any market.
Is it important to REALLY start thinking out of the box?

Its a little unrelated but people will be interested to know that if you go to google trends now you can see a top 100 list of new upcoming trends.
