Google Shakes Up The SEO World With Universal Search | ||

Google just announced that they will be releasing a major update to their algorithm and to the format of how their results are displayed. Their new results page is called “Universal Search” and it will combine results for Video, Images, News, and the rest of the Web. This is a MAJOR change that will have a massive impact on the world of SEO. It will also have a big impact on the traffic some were getting from search results. For example, a site that used to rank #7 for a specific keyword phrase will probably now receive traffic as if it were ranked #12 or #13 — because the Video, Images, and News listings will push the web site listings farther down on the page. We will now most likely see a lot of new SEO strategies that target Video, Images, and News. I think Video-optimization will see the most activity since News will be too hard for marketers to game the system. Images will seem like the easiest target but I’m sure Google already has some tricks up their sleeve to keep people from gaming the system there as well. I believe Video is where we will see the most activity — and it will probably be a combination of user ratings and other factors that determine which videos get displayed; not just a matter of video tags. Hmmm, does that mean we should shift our focus to create video clips (ie. with Camtasia) and upload to site like YouTube?

What safeguards do you think Google will put into place to prevent video/keyword mismatching.
Without actually watching the video how will Google know what it contains? For example, could I get away with posting a video of my holiday in Blackpool and using high price keywords like ‘cure acne’ as its title?

I had been trying to upload a video to my website for a long time and I had finally given up. Last night I was going through some old files and found the video. I decided to see how hard it would be to upload and view it on http://freeiq.com/freevideotraining1 . You know I had it up and watching it in less then a minute. I was amazed that it could be so easy after trying for so long. It seems like here lately I have been watching more instruction videos, then reading pdf’s .
So I would guess that google is on to something.

Makes me want to watch Spielburg’s new TV program “On the Lot” even more to learn how to produce/direct videos. It will be interesting to see how they display these results. I ain’t Google or Mr. John Reese, but it my mind, it’s too early to completely integrate video into search results. I assume the results will be labeled in some way so those who don’t want to view video or CAN’T view video can skip it.

Universal Search definitely looks like something that’s going to shake up the SEO world. I am currently in the beginning stages of creating my own videos using Camtasia. I can’t wait to find out more about SEO for video syndication.
I would love to know what kind of results John Reese has seen with videos and SEO. I hope he teaches more about this soon.
Has anyone else had any experience regarding traffic and videos. I’d love to hear about your own tests.

The bleeding edge is now starting to broaden. Soon to come will be many more video ads for all sorts of products.
I’m also making videos using Camtasia and it’ll be interesting to see what is to come in this area.

I think Google is just starting to shake things up for all of us and it’s learn or die at this point. To answer an earlier comment: you don’t have to become a part time film producer…there are many way of creating videos to add interest to your site.

this is good news for us smaller search engine owners as it will surely confuse many and make obtaining the information you seek that much harder.
Thank you google i may now get a much larger share of the search market and of course the advertising revenue that it will generate.
i am glad they didn’t follow us and actually create a system that allows users to remain on the results page while obtaining the information they seek while adding the ability to compare that information with other listings.
